Comments Thread For: Friday Nights Lacking, No Longer The Same For Boxing Fans

By Francisco Salazar - Friday nights have not been the same for boxing fans since May 22, 2015. That was the date the last 'Friday Night Fights' broadcast aired on ESPN2, with parent company ESPN entering an exclusive two-year time buy deal with Al Haymon for his Premier Boxing Champions series. FNF was a staple, one of the true rewards to dedicated boxing fans but since the takeover......yeah, well we know the rest of the story. Pure travesty it is but that water has flowed under the "bridge" for a minute now.

It cost so little to make FNF happen, hopefully there will eventually be a profitable way to have a FNF/Tuesday Night Fights type program going again.... be it on Netflix on Youtube Red or whatever.

It's really not a big deal. The same people that cry about FNF have probably never watched Toe to Toe Tuesdays.

Loved FNF man. Came on the perfect day and the perfect time, 2 AM. There's nothing i miss more about boxing than having a fight guaranteed practically every week but unfortunately this current incarnation has been swept aside and neglected by Haymon

I never missed an episode of FNF when they used to air it here in Canada. That's where we were introduced to some good fighters like Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward, Emmanual Augustus/Burton, John Molina, Hank Lundy, Julian Letterlough and Julio Gonzalez (awesome fight!), Mauricio Herrera and Provodnikov, Daniel Jacobs, Ben Tackie, Kermit Cintron, Jirov, and a million other fighters. Some great wars like the Cintron vs David Estrada fight and Julian Letterlough always brought a great fight. He was a beast.

I think they stopped airing FNF 2 or 3 years ago on TSN (the Canadian channel that always air it here). That was a huge disappointment. It became hard to get my boxing fix so I ended up having to ****** fights and watch them on youtube or occasionally pay for a promising PPV fight.

I remember the days back around 1999- 2000- 2001 when Max Kellerman and Brian Kenny did their studio segment and then Teddy Atlas would be live ringside calling the fight. Max was really enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fun to watch while him and Brian Kenny would argue and debate the fight game. Teddy would always be ribbing Max and trying to let him know that he was the young, apprentice that supposedly didn't know as much as Teddy. That was my introduction to Mosley, Margarito and many other great fighters at the time.
