Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Promoter Talks Possible Cotto Unification

Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who guides the career of WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs), is hoping his fighter overcomes his upcoming assignment at the end of this month in order to position himself for a mandatory fight with full WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs).

Golovkin defends against Martin Murray on February 21 in Monte Carlo. Cotto's plans are unknown after a planned fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez fell through. The Puerto Rican star is going to make a voluntary defense prior to facing Golovkin.

I don't think that Cotto will fight GGG. I don't think that Cotto is a coward or anything like that but I think he will choose a more comfortable way and vacate the belt. He earns big money anyway with his name onyl he doesn't need Golovkin and I think he knows that he isn't a real 160 lb-er so I don't think that he will take this fight. It's a pity cause I would like that fight. It would be exctinig as long as it goes. I think Golovkin would win but he wouldn't have an easy night with Cotto that's for sure.

Big props to Cotto of he takes it.

Cotto has shown a willingness to fight everybody. Don't think anyone has taken more tough fights over past 10 yrs- may, pac, martinez, mosely, Margarito 2x, trout (undefeated ), Malignaggi (undefeated ), Quintana (undefeated ), Torres (undefeated ), Foreman (undefeated ), plus Clottey, Judah,
that's impressive. So, I don't think he'll take it bc he's really not a middlewt, big props if he does!
