I'm surprised I'm not seeing this as much here as everywhere else........Porter won that fight. Thowing a few jabs and glancing right hands and then groping your opponent is not 'thoroughly out boxing' any thing or anyone.
Porter was using good upper body movement with weaves and feints to get inside, landed many hard shots and was locked up. He almost wore himself out trying to get out of the clench.
Porter landed far more power punches, great body work and frankly, more jabs than was given credit for. Some of Brook's shots 'looked good' because of Porter misjudging his slip but I actually heard the SHO guys say one of the shots had hurt Porter and the replay showed that the 1-2, the jab landed but the right glanced off his shoulder.
The reason a lot of people on here gave Canelo the fight was that despite landing roughly the same amount of punches, he was the aggressor, landed more power shots vs jabs, etc. Same thing happened last night but instead of running, Brook was holding. His jab with occasional left hook were somewhat effective but didn't slow Porter down at all. Porter landed 50 more power shots and though Brook's percentage was higher, it was only on the jab........
What did slow Porter down was all the time he spend trying to fight out of the clamps Brook had on him when he got inside.
In a re-match, Porter will give himself more room to punch, hopefully get a better ref, and he will beat him. Brook didn't 'take' any title last night.......it was handed to him because he 'looked better'??

Porter at this point would be better off fighting a couple of other good welters before requesting a rematch. Because he looked very limited last night. He needs to show an improvement in his boxing skills before asking for a rematch . Kell earned the belt, in a hostile crowd no less. He should be allowed to go onto bigger fights while porter fights some other guys. Porter could fight lots of guys like thurman, Bradley, even Marquez. But I personally wouldn't want to see a repeat of porter throwing wide hooks all night while landing on the arms. He needs to improve his footwork and get that jab going. Kell should be free to pursue the fights he wants now that he has the belt.

I completely agree. If there was a rematch we should get a better ref. one which doesn't allow rabbit punches or headbutts all night long.

It was close in the first half. Brook took over in the second.
Porter did not win. He has no case for winning.

Newsflash Porter: You LOST. Period.
Your one move: Bull-rushing while flailing wildly and then top it off with a rabbit punch or two to the back of the head or a head butt. Yeah bub, that's the real skill we expect from a champion. HA!
Go learn how to fight, you useless jurr-cough.

I think Shawn will change his mind once he goes back and looks at the fight. He just had the wrong gameplan and fought sloppy as heck IMO. He did decent body work but not enough as he smothered his own work most of the time when his father kept telling him to go to the body and turn Brook but Shawn just kept bulldozing in. The funny thing is i've seen several of their workout videos before this fight and that's what they were practicing on but Porter just wasn't doing it. That's what you do with a taller guy is get up under him, boom boom, then slide to the side.Last edited by Rip Chudd; 08-17-2014, 12:14 PM.
