Gonzalez was seen as very past his prime before the mares fight. Along the same lines as arce when he fought donaire. And his fight with morel wasn't seen as serious and more of a tune up. Ponce isn't good either. The only reason people thought that would be a tough fight for mares is because of the size difference, but mares was just as big on fight night. Plus Ponce was also past prime (a shot Juanma was able to easily beat Ponce which says a lot).

IMO Danny Garcia has a better resume than mares. Mares is very overrated.

Gonzalez =/= Arce in terms of anything above 118. Donaire fought Arce at 122 which no way in hell was it an even playground. Arce's Optimal weights were below 118 while Gonzalez has been at Featherweight for a few years. Also, Jhonny has always had power and even though he was the underdog, everyone understood his power could have easily disposed of Mares and it did. Sure Morel wasn't a quality fight but he was an ex titleholder and wasn't as easy as fighting an unranked fighter for a soft touch, although his best times were way past him and at lower weights. Perez, Agbeko, Vic, Morel and Daniel PL were all exceptional fights to string together. Sure Daniel wasn't at his best but his record was good. He was coming off of a win over Jhonny G. and a controversial loss to Broner and of course Gamboa. Seeing how Mares was coming up in weight no one expected him to drop the champion, much less KO him in 9. I still think Donaire has a deeper resume but Danny and Mares are neck and neck..well not for long seeing as how Danny lost in a "soft touch" but received a gift and is now taking on Rod Salsa...

You can tear apart EVERYONE'S resume like that. And I'm sure you know it'd be very easy to do it to Garcia's. But tearing apart resumes is overrated. Very overrated.
