This is an interesting point, and it's also supported by his pre-fight/fight-night numbers. Before he fought Dzinziruk, he said he would do whatever he had to do to fight Mayweather/Cotto. I don't think his mind-frame has changed much since then, cuz he's still hungry for that respect and them big paychecks lol

No one is arguing Martinez and Mayweather are the same size. They aren't the same size. Martinez is much bigger.

People are saying asking why that matters.

Martinez will vastly outweigh Mayweather. So? It won't be the first time and it probably won't be the last.

If Martinez can make 154 then let's make the fight happen.

and he'll he'll surely suffer for it. we saw what happened to chad dawson and i reckon it'd be even tougher for a guy serg's age. for the williams fight there was a catchweight of 158. It'd been 8 years since chad last fought at 168, and almost 4 since sergio last fought at jr middle. maybe he's just a different animal. i don't think its a smart move though. i could see anyone those guys doing to him what ward did to dawson.

IMHO, Canelo/Cotto do not pose the same threat to Martinez that Ward posed to Dawson. I think much more of Ward than I do of Canelo, and I think Ward is a tougher out than Cotto too (at their current stage). Sergio has been waiting to get in this position for a long time, and I doubt he'll just let it go to waste. He's at the end of his career, the perfect time to take risks. He has a lot of options right now, and if he can safely make 154, even better for him. The two obvious options are Chavez and Canelo. Take Alvarez out the picture, and he gets that much closer to his wish of fighting Mayweather.

It hasn't been that long. Sergio fought Williams at 160 in December 09, so this December would be 3 years. Still along time, and I too doubt his ability to make 154 healthy. I'd like to see him try though.

i don't think anyone expected the utter whitewash we got from that ward/dawson fight, but it happened, and i think it'd be just as likely because sergio's 37 years old. but as i said, maybe he's a diffrent animal. we'll know if and when that/those fights ever happen, but there's clearly precedence.

I agree with you, and as a Mayweather fan I want to see him fight Martinez, but I am telling you right now that if they fight and Floyd wins there are going to be people on this site who claim weight was a factor if they fight at 154. That's why I would much prefer Floyd just take the fight at 160 so noone has excuses when he wins.

Those people are idiots and you'll never please idiots. The fight should take place at 154 and hopefully it does. This has to happen next year--aside from possibly Bradley, I can't think of any other Floyd fight that would interest me.

4 years this February since he fought at 154.
