Then let's hear it for the casual fans. For my money, I'll take casual fandom over hero worship seven days a week.

Mayweather won't fight Martinez because he knows he might lose. Pity, since that would be a fight worth watching. Especially at 154 or, preferably, 160.

Instead Mayweather's entire yearly output will be a 30 min shutout/snoozefest against Cotto. Now there's a legacy builder.

martinez is too strong. mayweather may be able to neutralise him for large stretches of the fight, but it'd only take one cleanly landed punch and the fight would be turned upside down. and martinez is easily quick and crafty enough to land a few punches on anyone, even pbf.

See how he's always in a positioning stance to get hit by the straight left hand, he has always had the leverage to get off first at times to prevent them from throwing/landing it, those guys never had the the footwork to created better angles for themselves. Martinez would not only match Floyd's limited movement, but he would offset Floyd's timing and accuracy.

Only casual fans think Sergio is any good.

Floyd's ex would put up a better fight. How would beating up a bum like Sergio for 12 rounds add to Floyd's legacy?
Excuses already so floyd dont have to fight still, will things ever change? Just say someone is a bum so you dont have to fight them? Well boxers who are far greater than Floyd, have bums far worse than Sergio on their resumes, so Floyd should try and get Sergio on his if he can.

Sergio is too strong, i see Floyd finally get pummelled here if the fight is at 154 and not a catchweight

i think it really should be at 160 though

lol @ fl0mos trying to protect floyd's duck by downplaying martinez.

Martinez is not an easy fight for ANYBODY.

You think mosley hit mayweather hard? Wait til he tastes sergio's left hand. - and more than once.

sergio's leg's can cover half the ring in 2 seconds, floyd cannot run away from him and if he goes backwards he gets caught. Sergio also has superior reach and the speed to use it.

I would put my money on martinez in that fight.

First of all, when it comes to boxing skills, Sergio Martinez isn't even on the level of Shane Mosley. Mosley is a Hall-Of-Famer and for very good reason. And when comparing the two, it is very easy to see that Mosley is the better boxer with more skills. Martinez just hasn't been exposed by a good boxer that's on the level of Mosley, Marquez, etc.

But despite that, Sergio Martinez is too goddamn big to be fighting Mayweather or Pacquiao. This guy walks around naturally over 180 lbs. If he were to fight either Mayweather or Pacquiao, he would have such a weight advantage it wouldn't even be funny. People talk about fighting at 154, but guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao will never enter the ring at that weight. They will only come close to it.

Meanwhile, a guy like Martinez will rehydrate and come into the ring well over 20 lbs heavier. He will rehydrate to as much as he possible can. Maybe 175 lbs, maybe 180 lbs, maybe even higher! So Mayweather and Pacquiao is supposed to give this guy, who is by no means De La Hoya, and has little fan base, this great weight advantage over them? For what?

Martinez should be going UP in weight classes. Not down.
