Same reason Pacquiao will get crucified if he faces Marquez next, a guy who is the same size as him, instead of fellow divisional belt holder Berto.....while Martinez trying to fight guys 1-2 divisions below him is the hottest thing since slice bread when he should be fighting fellow divisional belt holders Pirog and Sturm.

Also the same reason if Manny even attempts to fight Cotto for his 154 belt is a cherry pick....while Martinez trying to do it is Sergio being a true champ/boxing's savior.

    Double standards are a mutha****er........

how can you say Pac is protected when he said even before the Margarito fight that he will go back to 147 lbs? even before Sergio knocked out Paul Williams..and you saw the difference in weight right? if you think Sergio is that good why not going up 1 division and give up some weight see if he is really a fighter you are making him to be? he has a chance to prove it. the competition is up there in that division. not in 147 lbs. and he is calling out Cotto. what an A S S!

Can't argue with you there. That's the truth there.

All I know is Martinez has the style to beat Abraham and as a first fight at 168 isn't that bad. 168 is filled with young young talented fighters (ala Ward) that are naturally the bigger men. Martinez's shot at being very successful there is slim IMO.

Lou has also stated his dislike for Martinez moving up to 168, so I see Martinez fighting the Zbik vs. Chavez, Jr. winner next. Pirog should be next for he poses the toughest challenge to Martinez (at 160).
he cannot beat Abraham. Sergio gets hit a lot. even against Williams. once Abraham land his shots he is done. if Abraham landed some big shots against Dirrell he can definitely find Sergio and knock him out. Dibella knows Sergio got no chance even against worst fighter in Super 6 so they wont even want to mention any guys up there even for a possible fight!

because people forgot that hes been fighting at MW for 2 years now

2009-02-14 153¼ Kermit Cintron = his last fight at 154lbs

I critize floyd for fighting JMM but it doesnt look good when u picking on these little guys, but I understand he wants the best and wants money

If floyd and pac wants to stay at 147 they have the right to, u cant tell them to move up its the same thing as asking Sergio to move up 2 divisions and fight Bernard Hopkins

If either Floyd and Manny chose to stay at 147 and finish there career it's not a duck on either guys part, just like it isn't a duck for Martinez to stay at 160 and finish career instead of moving up.

I just wish people were consistent because if say both should move up or it's ducking then you should hold Martinez to the same standards.

FWIW I feel whoever wins outta PAC vs Floyd will face Sergio and Cotto might end up facing him as well. People should just chill and let everything play out.

I agree with this. He should start with AA or Kessler and see how it goes. My guess is that he defeats both handily. Then let him turn up the heat and try Ward/Bute/Dirrel. If he beat all or most of those guys I wouldn't argue if he claimed to be p4p #1.

If he doesn't wanna' move up, I wouldn't mind seein' him in w/Kirkland or Angulo. Would be fun to watch.

Also, I think it's ridiculous for Martinez to call out Pac and Floyd. Both guys are just way too small for him and the result would have little if any bearing on p4p rankings, imo. He's just callin' em' both out to generate buzz around his own name and on the off chance that one them will be dumb enough to hand him a giant paycheck w/little to no risk.

These would have nice action. Martinez has such good timing and accurate punching, I can't see either fight ending any way but highlight reel knockout. Personally if I was with Kirkland's team I wouldn't want him fighting a guy like Martinez yet. He's a bit too green imo, and getting sparked might be bad for his development.

I welcome the idea, even though there is little to no chance Pacquiao will fight Sergio.

And i don't know if we can blame him here. The weight might be too much and sergio has been looking beastly lately. But i think the reason is mostly the discrepancy in weight.

With that said, i would love this fight to happen. I mean come on, its the reason why i became a fan of him in the first place. taking fights were he is the underdog and kicking ass. from ledwaba, barrera and most recently de la hoya.
