This. in a lot of cases, 2 oz. can make the difference between a punch being a "pop" or a "thud".

Also, its significantly less wear n tear on the arms with lighter gloves, which is why a lot of fighters wrap their gloves lower towards the wrist, to decrease the weight on the actual hands.

In this particular case though i actually think the lighter gloves would benefit Cotto, the stronger more active boxer.

If they had lighter gloves that buckle in cottos legs in the 12th would have been a knock down and floyds and cottos face would have looked even worse

the reason cotto wanted them is it took away some of floyds speed and it made his guard much tighter. it was actually a good idea in the end. floyd had a harder time getting his punches through because of that. but 8oz is surperior to 10 at 154 imo.

Who said cotto wanted them?, it is required fighting at 154.

Now consider the fact that Cotto is damaged goods and that says alot about floyd. I have always believed that floyd has picked subpar opponents to make himself look stellar.
You got the words right out of my mouth.

To the people calling floyd old and saying he looked bad

Lets be real here Cotto put up a good fight and Cotto is very, very heavy handed but Floyd fought Cotto's fight and won a decisive decision at 154..Floyd was still fast, slick and was actually throwing hard shots standing toe to toe at 154(no catchweight)with a 154 titlelist.Floyd isnt prime by any mean but if a bloody nose means you are shot then ost boxers are shot to ****.............why is it when other fighters go to war they are called warriors...but when Floyd does it he is shot??come on Saturday was a great damn fight Cotto brought it and Floyd brought it....neither has anything to be ashamed about Cotto is a future hall of famer and will most likely win another title

cause floyd requested 8 oz gloves and cotto declined.it take both to get them approved

Those are just unrealistic people. IMO Floyd did what he was supposed to do, which was win. Meanwhile Cotto did what he wasn't supposed to do, which was make that $h!t hard,LOL!! Good ****ing fight.

Floyd Does More Studying Than He Lets On, And It Shows

They act like they don't watch tape and this and that.

But Floyd said that he watched the Mosley fight and he saw Mosley's chopping right hand get around Cotto's guard..........that's why he was throwing that whipping right hand/hook from the start as opposed to the straight right he loves so much.

I'm sorry, but I love that he's that much of a student of the game. He acts like he doesn't do that but he does and I think it's very impressive.
