Comments Thread For: James Kirkland's Return Coming Together For 2011 Run

According to boxing manager Cameron Dunkin, plans are being put together for the anticipated ring return of junior middleweight prospect James Kirkland (25-0, 22 KOs). The 26-year-old unbeaten southpaw, who is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, was released from Bastrop Federal Prison, in Bastrop, Tex., in September after having pled guilty to a charge of gun possession in April of 2009. Kirkland has not fought since March, 2009 when he stopped Joel Julio in the sixth round.

Adams is a good trainer. He doesn't take any bull**** so Kirkland better be ready and have his head out of his ass.

I'm pulling for Kirkland, always have. But this is it. No more excuses, no more mistakes!

Here's to a big year for Kirkland in 2011

It would have been nice if he went back with Anne Wolfe, do you have any info on their fall out?

Great to hear, he needed to get away from Wolfe, and away from the streets.

I was hoping that he would stay with Shane for awhile and train with ****m.

I think she was/is pissed at what he did and I also think Golden Boy really, really wants to get him away from his hometown and away from trouble, so that means away from her because she has a gym there and she's not leaving.

The more I think about this though, Kenny Adams is exactly what James Kirkland needs.

For one, he's an ex drill sergeant. So he's not going to be missing that intense training ann wolfe proves. But more importantly, Adams is going to be focusing on the flaws that kirkland has and will want to correct them.

Kirkland seems to me like the kind of guy that will do whatever his trainer says, so that's a good thing.

You can read an article about Adams and how he was training Edwin Valero and was working on Valero's obvious flaws and making great progress but Valero wanted to do things his own way so Adams dropped him. Like I said Adams doesn't mess around, even if that means losing millions of dollars the man is serious about his training.

I think it's a perfect fit as long as Kirkland stays out of trouble.

                yes!
and then if he beats Cintron, a matchup with Sergio Martinez could be MAJOR

I just hope he's had some serious 'thinking' about what he had done to mess up his life, while in prison.

...because if he had not, then it will not take long before prison will take charge of his career again.

If I were his handlers I would match him easy at first and let him get everything together for a fight or two and then pursue a title.
