AMIR Khan has vowed to become the king of the light-welterweight division by the end of the year.

Khan defends his WBA world title against New Yorker Paulie Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden here on Saturday night.

And he is convinced it will take him a huge step nearer to becoming the undisputed top dog in the division.

Although he faces fierce competition, the 23-year-old declared confidently: By the end of the year I know Ill be at my peak and be No.1.?br />
He is also not frightened of seeking clashes with the men dominating the light-welterweight category.

Timothy Bradley (WBO belt holder), Devon Alexander (WBC and IBF) and the impressive Marcos Maidana are all on his radar.

He said: I repeat, that I think by the end of this year I can be number one in this division and beating the likes of Timothy Bradley and the big names is what I want.

Id say that people probably think Bradley is the number one. He is more experienced, hes had more fights and hes older.

But every fight Im getting better and before you know it Ill be on the same level as those guys.

I know I have the style to beat them. And, after beating guys like Bradley, you go to a level where you are fighting guys like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley ?so it can happen quickly.?/b>

Khan has lost just one of his 22 pro fights, to *Colombian Breidis Prescott in September 2008 in a shock first round KO.

But, since then, he has won four on the bounce, including the WBA title triumph. He puts much of the credit down to the influence of his trainer Freddie Roach, who has transformed him into a better all-round boxer.

Khan said: I worked with him around 2005 when I first went to America.

Seeing what he has done with world-class fighters like Manny Pacquiao, I thought he could do the same with me if I stayed focused and worked hard.

Then I looked at the whole picture ?hes got the experience, hes been in the ring himself, hes a good coach and hes had 24 world champions.

I was his 25th and he has really helped my game ?probably using my brains, picking the right shots at the right time and not rushing in.

I used to fight using the heart, being aggressive and Id think I could knock anyone down, but I had a good boxing brain and never used to use that.

He is a brilliant trainer. I think everyone can see the change since Ive been with Freddie ?Im like a different fighter.?/div>
      great read!

Khan won't beat any of those guys no matter how much time passes.

The fact that he admits he isn't ready now but thinks he will be ready in 6 months after beating up some featherfisted also ran shows exactly how ****** and out of touch with reality is. What is he gonna learn against Pauli that will get him by Bradley, Maidana or Alexander? Nothing and you know it. What is the 2 months of rest afterward going to do for him? Nothing and you know it. What is 4 more months of training gonna matter against someone who knows your chin is softer than ****? Nothing and you know it.

The fact that you buy into this garbage doesn't reflect well on you.

Also, if you think Khan's chin is better at 140 then you are in for a rude awakening. The guy is the most fragile boxer I have ever seen in my life. Pauili may only have 5 KO's but I bet you the 5 guys he knocked out had better chins than Con.

If Khan would have been 140 against Prescott do you actually think he would have taken those punches and come back to win?
My nemesis Always with good and strong points

later this year is his target. If he feels he still isn't ready then he will say it again.

Yes Paulie has no punch but he's also a difficult guy to beat. If Khan does excellent and doesn't get hit, then I'll say he can learn and get better by 1 year.

        Paulie is fast and accurate.

Yes his chin is very bad, I know that but I feel that everything has helped improve him because at 140 he can make wait more comfortably but also he has built his fight night body more symetrically.

It is not a cure for a bad chin but a slight solution to help.

At 135 and Harrision, he was not the same fighter.

He was too offensive and open.

        Right now, Khan beats Prescott.

this guys is running his mouth, if he beats Paulie he better be able to back it up and not punk out and make all type of excuses as to why he is not fighting Bradley or Alexander

Khan is not getting much love at all. Not surprising really considering the relative hype to accomplishment ratio.

this dude needs 2 stop it. hes talking about fighting manny pacquiao and floyd mayweather. he has a fight vs malignaggi and he thinking about bradley and alexander. paulie might make him look bad even in defeat and make his stock fall.

Amir CON is a fraud. Before he can mention the like of Tim Bradley he has unfinished business with the man that knocked him out in under 60 seconds!!! BREIDIS PRESCOTT. Until this fraud redeems himself and or fights Marcos Maidana who he is ducking this guy needs to keep quiet. He probably won't get past Paulie!!!

"You have to know the best time to have these big fights in your career. If you look at Oscar De La Hoya, he fought all the best fighters when they were on the way downhill, and not at their best. I want to catch these guys when they have come off their peak. But I have to be careful because there might be a younger version of me coming up who wants to do exactly the same to me." Amir Khan, GQ Magazine
