Pretty similar to the way people view the Klitscho's.
They show alot of determination and (and sometimes) intimidation, which alot of people mistake that for robotic. They rarely trash talk and in fact, they're a class act... People these days rather see an overconfident showboat dancing around grabbing his crotch doing the moonwalk while talking trash and eating outta their ass!....

I think John was waiting for someone, whomever to retire him legitimally. He was in for the ride and it took him far beyond he expected or anyone expected. The fans make the sport and they did not like to see him fight, so I guess Ruiz has to be more than gratefull for the sport that made him rich despite the lack of interest that he generated.

Boo hoo... I was happy at first that Johnny boy was the first latino champion. As time progresed, though, his unwatchable style and dirty fighting made me dislike him AS A BOXER. If he's a great person, then more power to him. Maybe he can help some kids out with all his winnings. All in all, thank goodness he is gone.

Yeah I did feel sorry for him and gain some respect for him last night for the performance he put on, without alot of grappling etc.. He seems like a nice cool guy probably out of the ring, him and Norman Stone. You got give him credit for the accomplishments he has had not being the most naturally gifted fighter in the world, he made the most of his abilities, became 2 time heavyweight champ, and made 3 or 4 defences. You have to credit to Norman Stone Stone as well despite his antics he seems to truly love his fighter as a brother, John Ruiz.

Rooting for Ruiz, defending him, is how a WOMAN would approach John Ruiz.

Why do you care if he's a nice guy or a hard worker ?
& WHY would you ever honor him by saying he was a "champion" ?

This clown was NEVER a champion. Never.

What he was....was a complete & utter disgrace of a fighter. He fought illegally, & brought shame & embarrassment to the sport by his ACTIONS INSIDE THE RING. There has never been a more horrific fighter to watch...

Women need human interest stories to make sports appealing to them. Men love a sport because of the sport itself.
A MAN will hate John Ruiz for the DAMAGE he caused his sport.
Let this piece of garbage ride into the sunset with his UNEARNED millions.
Feeling sorry for him ? Get a life !

I doubt you have ever boxed to make that statement. John Ruiz started to use the grappling techniques in the ring to make the most of his ability and not get hurt again. Heavyweight boxing is no light business you can get brain damaged in there or even killed, even though it was horrible to watch John, he did what he had to do to protect himself and make the most of his abilities toughguy. Your slagging off John Ruiz for fighting in a somewhat ***** style, you should keep your mouth shut in terms of making judgements until you get in a ring where there is only two men, you and 230 pound Andrew Golota, or David Tua, or James Toney, or Evander Holyfield. You make the wrong step against one those guys and you will end up like Gerald McClellen or dead.

Nobody can argue that John Ruiz was an entertaing or noble type fighter, but if you hated so much dont watch his matches plain and simple.

When you're in the sport of boxing, those are risks you have to expect to take. If he wanted to protect his brain cells, then he should have joined wrestling.

Give John some f***King credit for actually calling Jim Lampley up on the telephone and asking "how can I be more entertaing" he tried against Toney to fight a more noble and clean fight out of respect of the boxing fans and you still wont give him any credit thats ****ing bull****. At least John f***Ing tried to put on a good show against Toney and he did, and he lost, of course I feel sorry for him.

John did not have the natural talent to fight and be successfull in any other way than in the style he was. He made the most with what he had, and you have to at least give him some credit for that.

I was glad when Ruiz retired he was my most hated fighter, but he definitely deserves alot more repsect after his last performance. He lost his belt, because he tried to do what was good for boxing not was good for John Ruiz.

I respect him as a gentleman outside of the ring. But in the ring, as a boxing fan, I really had no respect for him as a fighter. Yes he tried to box against a better fighter. He tried that with Golota and got knocked down twice. He tried that with Tua and got knocked out. I know he did what he could to win a fight but it was painfully boring to watch. When you see little guys like Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, PBF, Trinidad - you have to appreciate the sport of boxing for its skills. But when Ruiz fights, he has to bend the rules of boxing to survive a fight. And for the life of me, he won matches! Title matches!

As a boxing fan, I'm glad he's gone. I do feel sorry for him as a person out of the ring. There are plenty of fighters just as nice as Ruiz out of the ring and yet possess boxing skills, however.
