Gatekeeper? That's an unfair statement. Plant fought well against a younger Canelo who was at the time seen as number one. And he fought well against Benavidez. Plant has his flaws, especially with stamina, which is probably due to his intensity; if he were able to be more relaxed in the ring he would perhaps be elite level, but that's not who he is. Anyhow, his two losses against elite level fighters don't make him instantly a gatekeeper.
Last but not least, I don't care much about him looking for trouble, even if that actually were true. But from the public stuff that we've seen it doesn't appear he's just a reactive guy and not someone who's actively creating trouble. Reactiveness can lead to unnecessary violence of course ?

he is 32 not getting any younger, hes NOT going to be the top guy at 168 or 175. So pretty much he is a test to the next level. In that sense he IS a gatekeeper, if you consider there are different levels of gatekeeper, if you can beat caleb you are probably in the top 5. there are other gatekeepers if you want to make it into the top 10 or in the discussion for a title ect.

Plant seems like a guy who loves to fight. Better he channel that aggression inside the ring - legally - than find trouble outside the ring.
I can't really blame the guy for getting combative with the douchebaggery other fighters provoke him with, either.

yeah he starts the physical altercations it seems like. trash talk is part of the boxing game and part of the promotion. if you want to make it physical well you are worth millions now not a smart thing to do you can get sued ect.

but when i see his mom is pulling knives on cops in her 50s and got herself killed for it I guess that makes sense he just comes from a trash family that is how they are

Back in the day, a 32 year old woulda had 70 or 80 fights &, yeah, he would be old.
