Comments Thread For: When heavyweight prospects fall: For every Mike Tyson there are many more Johnny Fishers

The heavyweight division, historically, is both the most lucrative and forgiving weight class in boxing. It is where money-making prospects are nurtured for as long as possible and, in turn, it is where faltering stal***** with name value become their dinner of choice

I don't know that anyone ever considered Fisher a prospect. He seemed to me to just be a fun guy to watch fight and who would win as long as he was very carefully matched. There's room in boxing for guys like that too , and plenty of money for them if they get the hometown fans behind them , especially in the U.K. where people really go all out in support of their hometown heroes.

Exactly he was similar to Babic crude, entertainment at a certain level but clearly going nowhere.

Of course for every world elite boxer there's a long list of journeymen. Otherwise everyone would be world class level.
Lastly, your jaw has to be as robust and strong as your punch.

Of course fisher was a prospect! If a boxer is knocking out everyone in his path, you have to think this.
ALL "prospects" have matched fights, this includes most wold champions.

Just keeping with fighters that get found out. Dubois! Looked good and had his head chopped off by Joyce. It does not mean he's a journeyman.

Lastly, Moses Itauma...11 fights and 11 knockouts. As a boxing fan you have to think he may be a prospect. You can't wait until a boxer has atleast 25 fights and has got atleast a European title.

I think it was always pretty obvious that his ceiling was basically being a fun to watch domestic undercard attraction, but it was still very surprising that hes come unstuck against Dave Allen of all people, an assumed past prime one at that. I think most people, myself included, expected him to steamroll Allen very quickly in their first fight.

Dubois always looks good when he's on top but as soon as he's not he becomes mentally unstuck.

And personally I think he's on the spectrum and that's partially to blame for it not necessarily his toughness or lack thereof.

Since when was Itauma 11 and 11 knockouts,Dovbyschyneko took him the distance and so did the guy who just fought Riakporhe.

Itauma is slightly different to Dubois, Dubois wasn't sparring world champions when he was in his mid teens and apparently hold his own.

Itauma's maturation is similar to Mike Tysons if he's the goods he should've been left off the leash already.

But they're holding him back or he's not willing to take the chances for some reason.

Fisher never passed the " eye tests" like Itauma or even Dubois.

Think that's a little unfair when as usual it will come down to money. It's not gonna be cheap now to get opponents for him with name recognition.

                  But hype is good.

                  Hype draws opponents.

David Price was a decent looking prospect until he met someone that could take and give half a punch at least in my mind but yeah Fisher lost at the level i figured he would have
