There’s a guy here that posted something that was sensible in trying to make sense of how it is over there. It’s not that they are rabid fans, it’s just the British culture of going out to “new” events.
You could put two retired soccer players who’ve had a feud going back 10 years and sell the “event” to a hungry populace and they’ll show up in droves.
