Mares had a decent, tough, opponent after a loooong lay off and eye surgery and I thought he looked sharped.
What stood out to me was the defensive he was displaying. If you've seen any of Mares's previous fights, you'd notice that he would get caught a lot on the inside and would also be countered plenty after throwing combinations. He was displaying EXCELLENT upper body and head movement. The positioning of his defensive slips where just right to where he wasn't out of position or had to exert more energy to counter what he was slipping.
I also saw a lot of body work, more than what he previously showed. He mixed it up great normally starting at the top and ending his combos with a left to the body and when he sensed his opponent was weakening, he went at the body more and more.
I don't think you can really ask for a more perfect execution of a come back than what Mares did there.
