Honestly, I can't complain that much because Miguel is just facing the other side of the HBO media-driven hype machine that helped him achieve his status to begin with. For instance- can anyone believe the balls on the pre-fight spin between Malinaggi and Cotto? They actually tried to make it look like a small, feather-fisted light welterweight had any chance at all against a solid boxer that we all knew was about to move-up...

Now that hype job is riding Pacquiao because of the excitement he brings and Cotto, having lost in recent memory, isn't enjoying quite the same level of recognition. So what? That doesn't affect his ability in ring, not really, and if he's the underdog that's just all the more reason for him to perform. A lack of expectiations will do wonders for Miguel come fight-night. He's not going to lay down for Pacquiao if he went to war with a much larger man in Margarito. A victory will put him back in the throne, and this temporary fall in Miguel's stock will be forgotten as much as his years of HBO ****-riding have obviously been forgotten by some calling him a 'whipping boy' now..

]Miguel Cotto isn't boxing's whipping boy. HBO was slurping him off big time for years. He's been given air-time, fights, and slowly stepped up competition over the years.[/B] He's a HBO stable fighter. They gave him lots of love. Up until the Margarito fight Miguel had nothing but positive spin behind him. Most recognized him as possibly the de factor ruler at 147, and that he might possibly be getting better with every fight. That's not to say there weren't some questions about him, but until he was beaten at the weight, his victories over Mosley, Judah, and Quinatna were all solid wins and added to his resume.

Then came that battle with Margarito, though. It's not like Miguel has spent his career at welterweight. He hasn't. He'd been looking good, fighting decent opposition, but then bloody, battered, tired and exhausted he took a knee against his rival, and then was stopped. It was a brutal ending.

You don't instantly come back from that. Especially when the man that beat you gets whipped by Mosley. Yes, we all factor in the cheating that Margarito might have been doing, but the fact is that Miguel got knocked out- a blemish on his reign at 147. The Clottey fight was damn close, too. It's hard not to have those previous questions made bold and more obvious with his current standing.

Miguel is still respected. Cotto still has many, many fans and HBO continues to show him love. The fact is, though, he needs to come back from his Margarito loss. That doesn't happen over night. I can't say he's anyone's whipping boy when HBO has been riding him since back around the Torres fight.

I think Cotto is right about where he belongs. I mean, he's fighting Pacquiao next and he'll get a lot of attention and possibly a victory out of it. Should he beat Manny, there's no way he won't be Tito reincarnted, so....
          Bull ****!!!!!!!!!!

First almost every olimpian gets his share of TV if he keeps winnin he gets more TV dates if he loses, then he is out.

Second, how Cotto stepped slowly in Comp?

He faced Jukko when he had only 9 fights and Jukko like 40, he face bazan when he had 14 fights and bazan over 40 fights.

He was facing tough mother ****ers from the start of his career!!!!!!

I can't take fans like that serious. There are maybe 20 people on here who seem like they know boxing and have been following it for a long time. Outside of that you have a bunch of cults and fan clubs on here acting like **** jockeys for there favorite man. Posting every little quote and article there praises there idol and belittles the next man.

I like Miguel, but you're just riding him now. Jukko and Bazan? Really? Sure, they had more experience but they just plainly weren't on Miguel's level- despite his inexperience. Bazan had been beat to **** by Castillo a year or so earlier if I recall and then lost his comeback fight to boot- so Miguel's handlers were giving him an experience opponent that had shown he was having problems and was beatable.

Jukko? He was coming off a loss, too, right? AND he'd been knocked out before by both Floyd and Corrales. When you put a young fighter in, slowly, sometimes you give him grizzled veterans that have been exposed as not having the ability to rise higher than gate-keeper. Jukko and Bazan might have had more fights, but both were coming off losses, and had been stopped, so Miguel's people weren't throwing him in with lions a la Vargas style, just to quickly get him to the top.

I love Cotto, but don't get it twisted. He's been HBO's baby for awhile and it's taken a slight hit since the Margarito loss. That's all.

u cant use boxrec's p4p list, its clearly biased & moronic. only use it for references on fight records & weights.
