Imagine Ruiz versus Valuev for 15 rounds. Or Spinks-Taylor.

You'd have to have some serious stamina to watch that ****.

I think it would be dangerous to the fan's mental health.

He died after being stopped in the 14th, but who knows if that extra round and a half killed him or if the serious damage may have already been done after 12. Sometimes the damage is already done but it doesn't quite show yet. Like Jim Lampley said, when he's seen fighters die after a fight, they actually walked out of the ring on their own strength. The pace could've been even more torrid in a 12 round fight with both guys knowing it was 12 rounds, and it results in the same tragic consequences.

I don't really have a problem with 12 rounds like a lot of other fans do. I would however, like the weigh-ins to go back to the day of the right.

I think 15 rounds is too long. There are some fights that shouldn't last 15 rounds. 12 Championship rounds is good enough for me.

15, 12 has diluted the sport. Only for title bouts though. Someone once suggested that the Ring belt holder should vacate the other titles and fight 15 rounders (which would get around the alphabet restrictions), which would give public legitimacy to his claim as world championship, a proposal I am in full agreement with.

I agree with Tengoshi-15 rounders for the Ring belt holder.

Of all the ring deaths that took place over the past 50 years only a few happened between rounds 13-15. The primary reason fights were cut to 12 rounds was because 12 rounders fit neatly into a one hour time slot back when boxing used to be on Network TV.

On the other hand jreckoning brings up a very good point. 15 rounds of Ruiz vs anyone would make me shoot myself in the face.

A couple weeks ago a Mexican boxer died from injuries sustained in a fight that only went 8 rounds. The only thing that's gonna stop deaths is if refs and corners know when it's time to stop a fight and even then it won't be 100%.

Those 3 extra rounds would force championship level fighters and titlist to stay in shape year round because those 3 extras are no joke. And with better conditioned fighters comes less deaths and better fights.

That is what I am talking about.

Certain fighters should not be fighting 12 let alone 15.

15 should be reserved for the real warriors of the sport.
From what I understand, changing title fights from 15 to 12 has not done much for fighters dying. Fighters are still dying. I don't have the stats, if anyone would like to do the research on the matter by all means do.

Fighters should have the option in a stipulation contract fight to opt for the 15, to seperate the men from the boys. Only certain fighters should have this option available to them, not them boring huggers or runners though, fighters who come to entertain and get down should have the option for 15.

Fighters would train differently, knowing they are pacing themselves to go a certain amount of rounds, but look at some of the lazy fighters in the late 70s/early 80s period alone, with 15 rounds. Benitez, Duran, E. Muhammad, those "lost heavyweights".

If fighters are lazy, they're just lazy, no matter how many rounds it's scheduled for.

True, but those fighters are not the fighters that would be worried about when you think about safety and taking sustained beatings that would kill them or leave them permanently damaged in a fight. All of them (except the heavys) were well versed vets in 15 rounds by the time they let laziness take them over.

15 rounds would mean better fights and more knockouts it doesn't get any better so unless there's overwhelming evidence saying it leads to more deaths or permanent damage than I will argue for it.
