Why is Hatton placing so much emphasis on being a 'new fighter'?

When surely the style best suited to beating Pacquiao would be his old, mauling self

He's not gonna outbox Pacman, and he doesn't have to ability to become a great technician... And the phrase "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" would probably apply to this situation too

If he goes in there in two minds about how to fight or doesn't play to his strengths, he'll get KTFO even quicker!

I understand there could be an element of mind-games to his comments, but it just sounds to me like he's not approaching this fight in the right way

What are your thoughts on the whole Hatton becoming a "boxer" thing?

It makes no sense. Even if Sr has improved his overall boxing skills, he ain't gonna win by outboxin Pac.

he's gonna try to be a boxer for about 2 rounds...but when he realizes that he's getting beat to every punch, he'll revert back to his old style

His arms are freakeshly small so it would be pretty ******ed to become a boxer. He needs to be aggressive and fight inside because of his physical limitations.

I think with Floyd Mayweather as trainer there really is a new philosophy at camp Hatton; and they believe that 'hit and don't get hit' is key; slick boxing is the staple of the Mayweather clan- a mentality that just saw Hatton getting put down badly.

Maybe Hatton should be rough, launch a rainstorm of body shots and look to tear Manny up inside. At best, he'll do that with more of a pace, attempting more accurate shots rather than brute strength swamping Pacquiao.

Really, though, it seems to me that everyone is applauding what Freddie did in honing Manny Pacquiao's style, that somehow people feel it can really translate into a pupil like Hatton learning a new arsenal from a trainer like Floyd, even this late in the game.

While I don't think Ricky will ever be a new fighter, what he attempts to do against Manny will probably be infused with the need to box and do technically sound things. Whether that's his saving grace or his downfall, I can't say.

He is just trying to convince himself really.

You are right, his mauling style is what going to keep him in this fight, if he tries to box with Pac hell get KTFO faster!!!!!!!!

ive been thinking the same thing, roach thinks that hatton will revert back 2 his old style and thats a good thing for manny, but imo that is when he will cause pac more problems

learning how to precision punch and evade punches will help greatly regardless of him trying to box or maul...if he mauls accurate punching is still vital so I dont see the problem

Wouldn't it be something though if the opening bell rang and there is hatton, bouncing on his toes side to side and dodging and weaving everything pac throws at him. LMAO
