Not necessarily, there's a lot of top trainers who never fought also and know the game.

Fighters are fighters and announcers are announcers. So what if they ain't fought before? I do enjoy hearin commentary from fighters who've been in there, but those guys are still good at what they do. They ain't really talkin outta their place til they start callin fighters cowards or sumthin, kinda like haters do on here all the time.

Genaro Hernandez is not a great commentator neither is George Forman

niether of those guys give much more insight than Lampley and Merchant

Al Bernstein is a very knowledgable commentator

Any of you Americans ever seen the Setanta coverage we have here in the UK?

Its really decent for a young TV channel, they have Richie Woodhall as commentator and a number of ex / current fighters as pundits..

Oh and I ve got loads of fights on my computer with HBO coverage and i ve always enjoyed it

I always find english commentators way to biased,
ok i know your going to support your own country but
don't be so blatant about it.
James Allen with Lewis Hamilton and the sky sports
coverage of Hatton/Mayweather arre two good examples.

But, I think the sky sports coverage is better than setanta.

Quite disapointing really, as you prefer commentators to have fought, so they can give you more precise accurate professional commentating, and know whats it like to be inside the ring.

anybody else feel the same sentiments?
sometimes guys that have fought aren't the most articulate persons and are unable to see the historicity of a boxing match...

for instance merchant was needed for pac/dlh to compare pac to armstrong, since merchant was probably alive back then.... seriously, that bastard is old.
