Does destiny of British Boxing rest with Calzaghe?

Does the fate of British Boxing boxing rest on Calzaghe's shoulders with Hopkins fight???? Hatton was considered by many as Mayweather's toughest fight to date. However, Mayweather dealt with Hatton with a TKO stoppage.

Since Lennox Lewis there's really been no standout British fighter that's taken the world by storm and gone over to US and kicked ass. If Calzaghe does lose how will British Boxing be viewed as a world Boxing force???

If Joe C loses to Hopkins it would be a major blow to British Boxing!

Yep, Joe C is our top fighter. If he loses to Hopkins then people will say that he was never that good, so winning is a massive deal from his point of view. At 36 he cannot recover from a loss and restore his reputation. JC is the only British fighter who is PPV top 10, so sure it's a big deal. It's also more important than the Hatton fight because Hatton was stepping out of his natural division to fight the PPV #1. Calzaghe however is the favourite and is fighting a man in his mid 40s.

I would say that our top 5 fighters are Calzaghe, Hatton, Witter, Haye and Woods. 3 of those are considered the best in their division, although Haye moving up would make that 2. I wouldn't be surprised if Haye is the only one on that list still fighting in 3 years time, so we need someone to come along and make an impression.

Maccarinelli is one of the best cruiserweights, but it's not a strong division. Khan hasn't fought at a high enough level yet to be considered a top fighter. Alex Arthur is a good boxer but he's in a tough division and it'll be a big upset if he beats Guzman.

I think Carl Froch is good, but super middleweight is turning into a very tough division (Taylor, Kessler, Bute, Miranda, RJJ) and so I'd be surprised if he establishes himself as the top dog there, especially as he's still not won a world title despite his age. He's maybe top 5, maybe not.

So in the short term I would say yes, but hopefully Kahn will fulfil his potential and win a world title around the time Calzaghe retires.

If Haye wins a heavyweight title he will be bigger in the general public's view than Joe only because we love heavyweights.

for a start joe wont lose.

and also, british boxing is not just about Warrens big boys.

Theres a lot of promise from Haye, and when Joe vacates super middle it'll be interesting to see what happens with Froch, especially if he beats Inkin.

and as much as he's not my personal favourite, theres always amir. (if al quaeda dont blow him up)

            overstatement!

Yes Joe is an incredible fighter but British Boxing destiny/fate/watever doesnt lie with him at all. Hatton is still fighting and his set sights on going to america again. And we've also got a promising prospect that goes by the name of David Haye who i think is gonna be our next Lennox Lewis or better. Amir Khan is also slowly gettin there.

There are a LOT of up n coming boxers that have so much potential its scary yet your going by mainstream names thinkin the the country rest on their shoulders.

i could write a never endless list of soon to be Hatton's, Calzaghe's, Eubanks or Lewis. or even someone who aint like anything we've seen yet.

BUT Calzaghe is our best at the moment and it is gonna be a big america-british clash and a good fight. Kudos to either fighter that wins. my british heart wants Calzaghe to win but i also admire Hopkins and i have a worryin feelings Hopkins is gonna win.

Hatton wasn't Mayweathers toughest opponent, Hatton was outclassed that night.

Mayweather just said that at the end of the fight to make him feel better, its sportsmanship.

Castillo and De La Hoya were much tougher fights for "Money May" lol

that clearly goes without saying, I'm surprised anyone would think that.

Hatton was one of if not the best credentialed fighter to face Mayweather! Hatton was 43-0 and destroyed Castillo and Tszyu before facing Mayweather. A lot of Boxing fans gave Hatton every chance of beating Mayweather.
