Please post a description of Liston's basic attributes

I am so sick of that troll Rusty... I mean there has to be a price paid when saying the most ridiculous BS. Lets bring ignorance into the sunlight...

It would be helpful to shut this blowhard up by simply describing what any fan, with moderate knowledge of the sport might describe Sonny Liston's basic approach to boxing. His attributes... why people consider him usually in the top ten or near, of the very best heavy weights, as opposed to Coetze... who apparently is "more physically imposing" to some here.

Liston was a giant in disguise.

      - -Sonny intuitively smart.

U intuitively either Ginsberg or Kerouac depending which way U swing that day with some days being a ménage a trois.

Solid boxer who knew how to use his freakishly gifted body to devastating effect.

People whine about Tyson or Bowe when it comes to wasted potential but to me it's Liston, I just think he came around and peaked in the wrong era, there weren't enough great fighters for him to create a greater legacy untill he was too old.

Imagine if he came around a decade later. I think he does pretty well in the golden era the more I think about it. With his aggression and brick-wall physicality I think he's a terrible matchup for Frazier and Norton. I think he outguns Lyle and gets the better of a lot of those solid contenders. Ali still beats him(I think Young does too believe it or not), but Foreman vs Liston would be very very interesting indeed.

I mean to me, and maybe I am delusional... But when I see a tape of Liston I see a very deliberate, chess player. A brilliant finisher, and someone with the patience to methodically apply himself to a game plan... If Liston came to the sport today, with the difference in mentorship, and talent coaching... He would probably fight like Wilder... Just swing and wing, and he would be succesful to a degree because others did not have the skills to really contest that approach on the regular.

When Evander Holyfield listened to his corner, and had the discipline to box Bowe, we see how effective that thinking can be... Sonny was very coachable.

Plus he hit hard and had knockout power in both hands. And when he connected, they usually fell. Would've been champ longer if he had gotten a title shot a little sooner.

Liston had underrated overall boxing skills. One of the best jabs ever. Sometimes it was too good because there was power behind it that would often knock his opponent out of range for a follow up right hand. He had good footwork, power in either hand, a respectable chin, and effective use of feinting, bobbing, weaving, and using combinations. He was a good finisher once he got his opponent in trouble. IMO he is a top five all-time HW. It is also my opinion he took dives against Ali in both fights. There was supposed to be a rematch before the Lewiston ME rematch, where Liston believed he would be allowed to win. He trained harder than he ever did in his career, only for Ali to postpone the fight due to a hernia. This bought Ali some time and the rest is history. The rematch ended up being one of the worst dives in boxing history.

                  - -Liston was mob backed and Cus didn't want Floyd to fight Mob fighters, hence the popcorn defenses.
