Even Ali looked scared when he faced Liston. I wonder who of modern era HW champs could resist his fear when standing in front of Sonny. OK, I know Fury would be clowning etc. but I am convinced he would be scared deep inside. Such fighters as Joshua or Wilder would be scared as ****. Golota would practically cancelled the fight just after a staredown. Kownacki, in his careless ******ity, would smile at staredown and would regret it sooner than in last Helenius battle. If Mike Tyson and George Foreman said that Liston was the scariest human being ever in the ring, there is something in it.

The only Sonny Liston I know couldn't put away Machen.
Not very intimidating.

However, I believe that both, in their prime, would have defeated Liston.

He hid his "fear' pretty well then.
Who wouldn't fear Sonny? Evander fears no man, only God. Evander would go straight at him. You can't scare a man who knows he's going to heaven even if he gets killed in that ring.
Not only would he not fear Sonny but the tables would be turned once Evander finds out Sonny's a bully. It happened with Tyson. Here's Mike shitting his pants in the rematch staredown while Evander is staring right through his facade.

When he destroyed Michael Spinks, he didn't even look him in the eye before going to work.
The mental state of Tyson when he faced Holyfield was deteriorated due to jail time, Don King abuse and (probably) drug problems. I honestly find the "shtting his pants" theory laughable, given what Tyson has seen and been through since he was a kid.
Ultimately, it's Holyfield who was always wearing a mask of Christian Soldier toughness (supported by PEDs, lest one forgets), whereas Tyson is what he has always been: a man uncapable of hiding his emotional turmoil.Last edited by Tatabanya; 03-14-2020, 09:49 AM.

It was all calculated on his part. Against Evander he looked very shook, he couldn't look Evander in the eyes, his eyebrows were going higher up on his face. Deer in headlights. But Evander was ice cold.

Are you seriously trying to compare the mental toughness of Holyfield(one of the toughest minds ever in boxing) and Tyson(one of the weakest minds ever in boxing) ?

However, one thing is being mentally unstable and another "shtting his pants". Just go back and watch the staredown in Tyson vs Holyfield I. It doesn't look to me that Mike was that scared of Evander.
Ultimately, they're friends now, which I genuinely love to see.
But I see you're too enamored of Holyfield (and biased against Tyson) to be really objective in the evaluation, therefore this exchange is basically useless.Last edited by Tatabanya; 03-14-2020, 10:36 AM.
