All the years of media Tyson did and never even mentioned Rooney. He has talked about everyone except for Rooney who is considered to be one of the most important figures in his career. It doesn't add up.
All I've heard over the years about who fired him, why Rooney sued him etc. are more like rumours. When you do find some parts of info it only gets more complicated.
All I can find is this 1996 New York Times article. Tyson said he fired Rooney over comments he made about his gold digger. I'm really wondering what exactly he said. Also I did not know that Rooney sued him for such a large amount, much more than I thought.
There's also a video of the post-Spinks press conference where you can see and hear Rooney bickering with Don King. There was some tension.
I kind of had it with Tyson crying like a baby about Cus in every interview, denying sexually assaulting Teddy's niece etc. but he won't even mention Rooney, ever.
They say he's still out there in the catskills training youngsters.

MIKE TYSON, in lengthy testimony in his former trainer's lawsuit against the heavyweight champion, yesterday denied ever offering KEVIN ROONEY a career-long contract.
Tyson said he fired Rooney after the trainer's comments about Tyson's former wife, ROBIN GIVENS, during a television interview. ''I thought that was betrayal,'' Tyson said during his five hours on the stand in Federal court in Albany.
Despite that, Tyson said he considered rehiring Rooney -- at least until being sued by him -- and that he considered Rooney was like a brother to him. ''Even right now, I'm not mad at Kevin,'' Tyson said.
Rooney, who was fired in 1988, is suing the boxer for $49 million in past and projected earnings. While admitting he had no written contract, Rooney contends that Tyson's mentor, Cus D'Amato, who died in 1985, intended for the trainer to handle Tyson throughout his career.
Tyson, while frequently admitting he used to take little interest in his legal and business affairs, firmly said he had no written contract with Rooney. He explained that he directed a former manager, JIM JACOBS, to say in an interview that Rooney would be his trainer as long as he kept fighting because he wanted to defend the trainer at a time his skills were being questioned.
