Ali fought on banned diuretics in the later part of his career

Why is that not held against his legacy? He became lazy towards the latter part of his career when it came to shedding fat and was prescribed banned diuretics by his shady doctors.

He was essentially using illegal PED's but I've ever heard that used against his legacy like PED use has for other fighters.

He was unwell and taking medication.

This is all common knowledge to most people within boxing.

A heavy weight doesn't need to take a diuretic to make weight...the only other reason to take one is for what it's intended to do which is help with high blood pressure...they do not reduce fat only water retention. Diuretics are not PED's and today a boxer would receive a TUE if they had a legitimate need for them. I'm not sure in Ali's day that was even needed.

Sorry are you saying the diuretics he took to lose fat were part of his medications? He was actually banned from ever fighting again in the state of Nevada after they showed up on tests.

And I'm not asking about whether most boxers fans know or don't know but why he gets a pass when other boxers don't?

Ali didn't take them to "make weight" he was just out shape by the late 70s.

Ali was notorious for not liking to run by that point in his career but still had his healthy appetite.

Look up any source of Ali in that period and that prescription, as I mentioned it was banned and he was banned from ever fighting in Nevada when he tested positive after his Holmes fight.

You have no idea what you are talking about...DIURETICS DO NOT CAUSE FAT LOSE AT ALL. Do a google about this please.

How about you post a link. This is complete BS.

But it is a fact. Ali had been given banned diuretics in a desperate attempt to shed some of the flab he has accumulated at the tail end of career spanning two decades.

When this showed up in a test the Commission agreed to let the contest with Holmes for the WBC heavyweight title proceed on condition that Ali never fought in the state of Nevada again.

The Holmes fight, on the back lot of Caesars Palace, was really the end. Ali looked like a miracle when he came into the ring. But the effect was entirely cosmetic. He had been filled with diuretics

Tell me are you one of those rubes who thinks pro-athletes were always crystal clean until the 1990s came around?

I take a diuretic and know exactly what they do and they don't shed fat. He may have taken diuretics for blood pressure and likely too much if they damaged his kidneys. But the the issue here was he was given L-DOPA which is used to treat Parkinson's disease. He didn't know anything about the drug and thought they were vitamins. He thought if one was good for him that taking more of them would be better and when he got into the ring he was unable to fight. That in essence was what your links are referring to. Everything he took was for health related reasons albeit he did a lot of self mediation to his detriment....it was not performance enhancing at all and those article have little credence.

He was unwell, let it go 'Just let it go man'.

Muhammad Ali was taking a collection of medications, and should not of been fighting.
