Matthew Saad Muhammad vs. Yaqui Lopez II - What a fight!

The 1980 rematch goes down as one of the greatest LHW fights of all time, with round 8 rivaling Hearns/Hagler round 1. What a fight. Muhammad aka Matthew Franklin was in some wars during one of the greatest eras of the division. Two great warriors here.

Definitely, Matthew was one of my favorite fighters when I was young, and saw no downside with boxing. When Matthew was in the ring, you knew you’d be entertained.

Posted this interview before, which summarizes the evilness in boxing. Even if you have been a celebrated star of the sport – when you turn into a has-been, we don’t care about you or your after-the-career life.

Yaqui was half that fight, lads. Don't forget, he was in some of the greatest fights ever himself, by buggery!

          - -The sandwiched middle of the Bob Foster and Mike Spinks era, that may have been the most competitive era in history with most fighting each other multi times, ie actually fighting.

Every fight a rollercoaster of thrills, spills, and blood and guts no quit action.

          No Fancy Dans allowed!

Good point. How often we ignore the guy who made the other guy great.

Awesome fight....and you didn't have to PPV it, or stream it, or buy an app or a cable contract. Those were the days.

This is one of my favorite fights ever. I think Saad is about as exciting as any fighter in history. Possibly Olivares the only one close in terms of consistent exciting.

Lopez was always hell too. So unlucky that he never lifted a title. That was a golden age for the division. Conteh was another fantastic fighter too.
