Carter vs Giardello, One More Time

I have watched this fight before, and easily gave it to Joey. But then I watched it again recently. This time I thought Carter won and Giardello did hardly anything.

Folks, maybe Bob Dylan got that part right after all. Maybe Carter should have been champ of the world.

The copy I watched was pitiful quality, that's why I am asking the opinions of all forumers willing to watch it again.

A closer inspection shows that Carter had decent form and was not an amateur in a professional's trunks. His form was pretty tight.

His biggest problem seems to have been that he could not deal effectively with good boxers, especially the highly mobile kind, which Joey definitely was. He tended to follow them around slowly, giving them plenty of time to operate where they lliked to.

Like most fighters, Carter was not likely to put anything new in his medicine bag at his age. The big punch worked too well, except when it didn't.

So who really won this fight? Take a good look at it, do not go by memory, because memory is a very faulty function in us. Use your fresh eyes, and see what you think. I will appreciate your opinions.

Where is a copy of the fight? Youtube or do you have a personal copy?

It was a close fight. Definitely a difficult one to score. At that point in his career I'm of the belief that Joey didn't have much left in the tank. However, I believe that late rally from Giardello cinched it in his favor but I wouldn't argue too much if someone scored it for Carter. Although it was far from the out right robbery that the film claimed.

Yeah. Fights where not a lot of effective scoring occurs are notoriously hard to judge. I think this one falls into that category.
