If I'm watching a recording of a fight, I usually chapter skip to round 1 anyway. I kind of lean towards Chuck Hull as a favorite, nice deep voice and no nonsense. Least favorite? I guess Jimmy Lennon Jr. because he sounds a little too nasally. Who was that old time guy that announced Marciano's fights? He seemed pretty good.
Do you mean Johnny Addie ?

Chuck Hull was OK.. Much better than Lennon jr and Ed Derian.. They may well have just computerized announcing with those two.. And, why did Ed always repeat the fighters surname? More importantly, why did he always refer to the combatants as "principals?!" Was he a frustrated educator or did he just have a thing for Victoria Principal??!

And for that matter, why are trainers called "seconds" or "chief seconds"?

Was that who it was? Not sure. He probably announced some Joe Louis fights too. Those old time guys all had that booming, theatrical sound then. And how did they maintain those mics back then? Was it just hung by a wire from the rafters until it was time to use it? I guess someone with a huge ladder would be needed if the device needed to be fixed or replaced.
