In regard to saying he was no Morrison I am pretty sure he meant that he was not going to fold and was a lot harder to hit than Morrison was for Mercer.
By God, you work here, don't you? What is this with the points? This injun feels he is getting gyped on the wampum. Every time I look, after interest has supposedly been given, I have no more wampum than I previously had. Does one have to be logged on at the time interest is awarded? I want these white man points, but the white hairy faces are keeping them from me.

It's just me, but I thought both Spinks-Holmes fights ******. Very ragged and sloppy.

I thought Spinks won the first fight and Holmes won the rematch.

What I found so captivating about these bouts is you got an all time great textbook boxer against a guy who is very unorthodox and very much the opposite.. I also found Spinks style quite fascinating.. Perhaps the only other boxer remotely like him was the great Aaron Pryor.. Granted, Larry wasn't at his best I thought the fights were very memorable..

Only seen them once, but thought Holmes won both. Will have to see if I have the same opinion when I watch them again. I didn't feel when I saw them that Spinks did enough to take the title. It just seemed like the powers that be were trying to get rid of Holmes, but him losing the title just made him determined to win it back. He probably wouldn't have fought until 52 otherwise. Not as bad as the Briggs decision over Foreman though.

Speaking of not expecting to win, it seemed Paul Williams had the same reaction after hearing the decision in his fight with Lara. More judges should be punished like that with decisions that bad.

Nor should he have gotten the victory IMO.

i have watched Holmes vs Spinks many times, most recent in the last 6 months. IMO Spinks was a clear winner of their first bout 10-5rds.. i also had Spinks edge the second bout which was very close.

That fight wasnt even close in the rematch ,Holmes ate him up with non stop jabs ,rocked him several times with his right ,pressed him the entire time but one or two rounds where he let off the gas pedal ,Spinks won no more than 4 rounds that night and thats because Holmes gave him 2 rnds when he rested after round 6,he scored with a limited number of flurries at he end of some rounds thats about it!The best way to gauge a fight is simple ,TURN OFF THE VOLUME!

I thought it was a good story to read after I seen the fight
--- It's a fair and balanced look at the fight.

I recently rescored it using modern rules and had Cooney ahead even when giving Lar my even rds that judges aren't allowed to score, but it's still close and a much better fight than remembered. Lar was gracious that night, belying his idiot thug act against Cooney when Howie tried to introduce Cooney to drum up support for that fight.

Cooney was scheduled for Weaver who would've prepared him better for Lar, by that fight fell out and Cooney ended up almost 2 yrs inactive, not the best prep for Lar.

At any rate , Lar says racist things as any first rate jerk is prone to, so in context to jerkdom, no biggie. Butterbean pretty much humiliated him , the type of fight no great should have on his resume, but, hey ho, just another day in jerkdom.
