**** Tiger-- What are your thoughts about him

What is the history sections thoughts on **** Tiger,,, Where do you rank him..

I think he was a really good fighter from what i have seen, but i dont know much about him except the usual crap that everyone already knows....

    What were his best wins

    What about his losses

    What about his style

Why isnt he a bigger name in boxing history, he seemed to be a very good all around fighter, so why isnt he talked about like pep, srr, monzon, etc...

    Great fighter, ATG fighter.

One of the fighters of the 60's, arguably the fighter of the 60's.

    Top 10 ATG MW.

Greatest African fighter of all time.

One of the all time great chins.

Best wins; Giardello, Fullmer, Benvenuti, Torres, Griffith 1 (No robbery but I thought Tiger edged it)

His style was very versatile, could take the fight to you, slip his way inside and work very well on the inside or could easily box and counter punch on the outside, both with very good effect. Very tough, very strudy, very well rounded, versatile and an easy fight for no one at MW and I believe that goes for any MW that's lived.

      **** Tiger

A great fighter who was liked by all.

I saw him beat Torres for the light heavy title and beat Bevenuti
      in a non title fight.

He fought many times on free tv

      He died much too young.

Covered this in the other thread but to touch on it again, the vast majority of the 50's was basically his Amateur career.

He didn't hit his prime or peak until the 60's.

          The only fighters he lost to in the 60's were;

          Giardello - Went 1-1 (2-2 in total)

Wilf Greaves - Went 1-1 and the fighter he lost to who wasn't a top guy.

Joey Archer - Very close fight. Only guy to have a winning record over a peak Tiger IMO

Griffith - Very close, had slipped abit by then, chin showing signs of wear and tear (Finally) first time he'd been dropped in his career (Fullmer did catch him with a flash KD in their second fight but it wasn't ruled) and I felt Tiger won the fight

Bob Foster - LHW, passed prime, still good, but size difference was just ridiculous.

Once he got into the mid-late 50's he was coming into his stride, lost to Spider Webb for example but Webb was a good fighter. On the wrong end of some bad decisions aswell.

            ok, thanks irondan

I figured the bob foster was past prime/size, but was unsure about the others

I really dont understand why this guy doesnt get talked about more often,,, IMO he is a top 5 mw of all time and i would have him ahead of guys like hopkins,, still not ahead of monzon or hagler, but just slightly behind them

              Middleweights a stacked division.

Tiger's one of my all time favourites but I don't think I have him Top 5. #6 I think.

I have him ahead of Hopkins for sure. Below Monzon and Hagler though.

Tiger has a strong resume but the problem is he does have those loss's that go against him albeit pre or post prime for almost all of them.

                @irondan

Who is your top 5 or 6 MW

Sometimes i think i got it figured out, but then i get turned onto a new fighter or new way of looking at things by guys like you and joseph, scott, greeh, and the other great posters on history, that is why i love the history section much more than NSB and its a shame the traffic on this section has dropped over the past few weeks,, It was popping a few months ago with jabs, irondan, joeseph, scott, Ruebansonny, greeh, humean, nelson, NE, Ray, MDpop, and a few others... The past week or 2 it has dropped off

Jose Napoles is another that over the past few months i have found to be a very great and underrated fighter

                  1. Monzon
                  2. Robinson

                  10. Steele

                  It drops off a lot.

When I joined this site I only posted in this section elusively. There were loads of great posters.

I only started posting in NSB when this section starting getting slow.

                    Good list.

Although I think a strong case could be made for Greb being the best middleweight of all times. Monzon is top 3 with Robinson and Greb, but for me, probably #3. He's got a lot of defenses, but I think both Greb's and Robinson's resume's are better than his.

With regards to **** Tiger - He's a great middleweight for sure. If I had him in my top ten, which I'm not sure I do, then it would probably be 8-10.
