    Concerning styles...

    Boxer
    Boxer-Puncher
    Brawler
    Peek-A-Boo
    Counter-Puncher
    Slickster
    Crab
    Dancer
    Slugger

Are there any more categories/sub-categories? What is the most generally the most effective style? Do our ATG's actually admit to being soley of one particular style?

    Swarmer...

I'd say the most effective style overall is boxer-puncher, basically someone whose learned their craft & has some good pop too.

Were Tyson, Marciano, and Frazier considered swarmers?

        Yes.
Chisora, Greb, Basillio etc are all referred to as swarmers/crowders.
Like to get inside & crowd their opposition, working their way inside and delivering combinations to both head & body.

Similar to a brawler but usually with a fleeter foot & better head movement.

Tyson used the Peek-a-boo style invented by his OG trainer Cus D'Amato for Floyd Patterson

I found that the top of the ATG list is filled with Boxers and sprinkled with a few swarmers.

If we are talking about stance then one that is not used much any more would be the full crouch. The full crouch was used by bob and weavers but seemed to disappear after the 70s-80s. Your weight would be forward on your front foot allowing you to bob and weave and was very good if you were the shorter man. Jack Dempsey's how to fight guide is an excellent read if you want to know more.

Those styles can be subdivided by range. Frazier was a swarming inside fighter. Some swarmers are mid-range fighters.

Some fighters, particularly in the amateurs, can be called "Jabbers". Back in my amateur fights, I would often go an entire bout without throwing more than four or five non-jabs. If I ever get healthy and get to resume my career, I want to work on incorporating more punches.

What cause the death of the crouch? I imagine if someone managed to bring it back they would have a major advantage since almost no one has training to deal with it
