But I don't think they are as good as Roy's stand out wins over Hopkins and Toney.
I think this is what it comes down to. toney is one of my favorite fighters, but Jones beat two great fighters... even if we cancel out McCallum for Hopkins... a legit possibility... Toney was a better win for Jones that Nunn for Toney. Jones was dominant in his win... Toney showed greatness, but was not dominating Nunn, and was in fact behind.

I see that excuse all the time. But the fact remains that Toney was never "drained" until he lost to Jones. It's a ready made excuse to discredit the Jones win. He certainly didn't show any effects from that in his previous fights and could have moved up in weight if he chose to. Jones beat Toney because he was the better fighter. Period.
I made a thread to address this excuse making... It really is a red flag as far as determining whether someone is knowlegable about the sport... One could explain away any fighter's performance...

Ironick as it sounds, perhaps the one good thing about the segregated boxing world of the great Black fighters was, they fought each other many times. It averaged out and gave us perhaps the most realistic account of comparing great fighters. Unfortunately this was because they could not fight for the Heavyweight championship.

But traditional boxing, with some exceptions, never gave us the an average... And we just have to accept that fighters are human, and sometimes are better than other times. Its part of the sport.

Its funny how a blown up middleweight who stood in front and got the better of an inside fight with one of the best cruiser weights ( and body punchers) in recent memory (Jirov) and someone who stood in front of heavyweights, is scared to throw punches because of Jones speed. Do you also believe that Toney didn't have an IV administered after the Jones weigh in because of all of the laxatives/diuretics help him lose weight?

This line of reasoning is ridiculous. And it illustrates the point of ridicule so well... lets explain away every victory, every defeat and fking keep all professional fighters with the same record why don't we? 0-0.

Ali? Welllllllllllllllll Foreman had a curse put on him, and his mama did not toilet train him, or he woulda killed Ali!

          Just stop it!

In football if you lose your quarterback there is no asterick when the other team wins! boxing is a sport, especially modern boxing and like all sports, a fighter is expected to find a way to perform at his best when in the ring.

Queenie brings them up. lol. I saw you post in another thread. Didn;t want to get a last word, its just that I am on a personal campaign to stamp out the need to excuse away fights... I actually do think toney was drained...But it is not really something to consider unless we are willing to look and categorically list every other such time a fighter was compromises...as if we could even know?

Better to just say, its part of the sport.
