Monzon was great, but Im not sure there was a fighter below 175 who could ever beat Foster. He had a long, fast jab and his power was simply frightening.

Foster was 6ft 4 and a serious puncher. Monzon was an ATG, but Foster was too much.

Monzon wouldn't have his usual size advantage, and he wasn't fast enough to bother Foster. I see a patient Foster clearly outboxing him for a 15 round decision.

I give Monzon an 80% chance of winning. As tough and as reachy Foster was, Monzon was simply far more skilled. Monzon by UD.

I don't see it. Monzon has excellent skills, but more times than not he was employing them against fighters he had all the physical advantages over. Foster trumps all this with his power and own physical advantages. Foster had very good skills himself.

It sure sounds to me like you're greatly underrating Bob Foster's boxing skills.

Gead to head there aren't many fighters at 175 I'd take to beat Foster. Monzon can survive the 15 though.
                Foster UD.

                I feel Foster gets underrated

There isn't a single advantage Monzon would have in this fight, whereas Foster would have massive advantages in punching power, size, and strength.

Monzon stood super straight up, and that was fine and dandy when facing shorter guys. His head would practically be on a tee for Foster to nail, and at 175lbs, Bob Foster is one of the 5 best lb4lb punchers in history, IMO.

As much as I like Monzon, I just can't see him finishing this fight on his feet.
Just one ittie-bittie mistake & he could end up like Mike Quarry.

Right before I hit the "Submit reply" button, I thought of something else.....

Who did Monzon ever fight that had a killer punch? This is in no way a knock on Monzon's legacy, but I think the biggest pure puncher he ever fought was Gratien Tonna. Valdez, Napoles, Griffith, etc were not guys who could get you outta there with one shot.

I'd venture to say that Foster could hit as hard as any 175lber in history. I just can't see Monzon, who really never faced a murderous hitter, finishing the fight.
