    Alexis Arguello At 147lb

Could he have made any impact at the weight?

How does he fair with the following?

    -Carlos Palomino
    -John H Stracy
    -Davey Boy Green
    -Pipeno Cuevas

147 would have been a step too far for him in my opinion. Palomino and Cuevas are too strong for him.

Davey Boy Green was actually more of a 140 lber so Arguello would have stood a very good chance against him. Green didn't take the best punch. He relied on "outhustling" his opponents and at the same time left himself open for counter punches.

arguello had the body frame to make the weight adjustments,he was a very good boxer, with good punching power in both hands,

He loses to all of them, maybe Green he could beat, maybe.

Its a shame Arguello never won a title at 140lbs, because he could have definitely done it.

I remember him making a (short)comeback some years after the Pryor fights and running into Billy Costello, who was a world champ less than a year before the Pryor fight. I think he lost the title to Lonnie Smith...? but yea, despite Arguello being past his best and semi-retired, after losing 3 rounds he cornered and KOed Costello in the 4th.

pretty damn impressive considering the circumstances, and that Costello was considered the best or 2nd best fighter at 140lbs not long before.

I think Palomino's body work would have simply been too powerful for the lanky, blown up version of Arguello. He hit way too hard to the body.
Stracy had an excellent, powerful jab, as shown in his fights with Jose Napoles. I think Arguello would have too much trouble getting through it, considering he would have a size disadvantage.
Cuevas in general hit way too hard for someone moving up so high in weight. I can actually imagine Arguello hitting Cuevas with counters multiple times actually, but Cuevas simply was too big a puncher for any fighter that had to move up in weight so much. On top of that, Arguello would have been too big a target.
He stands a fair chance against Green. Arguello would have done quite well against someone with Green's style.

All of them beat Arguello. The Cuevas fight would be especially ugly.

Arguello might have had the height for 147 but he didn't really have the build for it. He would've been muscled around pretty easily and pushed onto his heels which would've nullified a lot of what he could do. I don't think he would've been able to be successful there.
