Why was Graciano Rocchigiani stripped of the WBC Light Heavyweight title?

He won it in 1998 by defeating Michael Nunn by split decision.

Does anyone know why he was stripped? All I know is that he sued the WBC for $31 million. And they nearly went backrupt because of it. It seems pretty serious. Does anyone know why he was stripped?

They most probably did it because Jones was the bigger name and maybe it worked out that they would end up making more money with Jones, so they broke all of their own rules and stripped him.
    Hence the court case

off topic: have you seen Nunn-Rocchigiani

      1. Yeah, I posted in the other thread.

      2. No, I havent seen it. But I might get it on DVD sometime. Have you seen it? I know that Nunn was the heavy favorite and it was a pretty good performence by Rocchigiani because many felt he was on the slide.

Nunn was clearly on the slide by the time of the Cordoba fight at smw, he was way past his best at lhw:
Micheal Nunn vs William Guthrie: (2 fights after the Graciano fight)

I havent followed Nunn's career that much but I heard he got into drug problems in the mid 90's (Something he is now locked up for) and it really took away his speed, reflexes and everything that made him a special talent early on in his career. The one fight I have seen was the one with James Toney, Where he looked brilliant until James caught up with him in the late rounds. It's a shame how his career ended up, But at the end of the day he only has himself to blame.

Have you seen the fight between Nunn and Rocchigiani?

Is it worth getting on DVD?

Nunn was my favourite fighter BITD. I was shocked he lost to Rocchigiani. I've never seen the fight actually, but I think I heard it was an OK decision.

Ive been thinking of buying it, but I dont think that their styles would gell to make a pleasing fight

I'll definetly check out a couple of those you mentioned. Like I said before Iv'e only seen his fights with Toney and Kalambay (Think I saw it) and everything else seems pretty rare.

His fights are hard to come by, but im going to upload about 12 of them when i get the chance

Off topic: He wasnt listening to Dundee(his trainer) during the Toney fight, Dundee wanted him to stick and move (box) but Nunn at that stage of his career liked to stand and trade. Hence the reason he took so many body shots and got wored down and koed later on in the fight.
