Monzon at 160, possibly Hagler. At 175, Charles, Patterson, possibly Greb, Tunney and others.

How do you come to that conclusion considering the mostly soft level of competition he fought?

I dont want to get stick for this but I dont think Spinks, Moorer, Charles, Moore, Greb, Tunney, Carpentier or Foster could.

My closest bet would be a trimmed down Floyd Patterson at light heavyweight...........but he didn't have enough workrate or defensive skills for me to favour him. He could get close to Roy for handspeed and combinations though and possibly the edge in power.....but a decision win, naa!

Montel Griffin had the best gameplan for outboxing Roy, he did a very good job in their first fight, moving back, countering, picking aggressive moments when Roy was on the ropes but not getting carried away, lots of feints and good energy conservation..........this fight gets forgotten for everything bar the ending. Archie Moore may have had a fair stab at this type of fight.......but I wouldn't favour him.
Griffin gets forgotten because he got KTFO in the second fight. Most people (like myself) just figure Roy didn't take Montell that seriously the first time.

I think a few of those light heavyweights you mentioned would be able to win decisions over Roy, because Roy was small enough where those size differences would come into play. At 160 and 168, I don't think anyone could beat Roy unless they knocked him out, and even that is just so hard to do.

Roy would easily have beaten those guys, Hagler would look like a guy in slow-motion compaired to Roy

Calzaghe would of beaten Jones in his prime.

                    What makes you say that?

                    Maybe Hagler or Nunn

Charles, Spinks and Tunney all beat him. I don't know if by decision or stoppage.
