Looking for ANY info you can give me on my Great Uncle Troy Bellini

My grandfather told me about his uncle(my great uncle) Troy Bellini, who was a golden gloves fighter back in 1934.

He said he fought on the same team as Joe Louis back in the Navy...

Apparently he was a golden gloves champion for 118 lbs 1934-1935..

My gramps found it interesting how I am so into boxing, and that his uncle was a boxer... He dug up some info on him, but I am sure you guys could help me find more.

I believe he went pro... but I am uncertain.

My grandfather said he ended up quitting boxing because he was so disgusted of how crooked the sport was back then..

    THANK YOU!

Very interesting Reed. Here's some info on him. Very good amateur.

1934 won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at bantamweight, it has been said by decision vs. Tommy Barry.

1935 won the National AAU in the bantamweight division.

And yes he was pro, he was 0-1-1, and from what I know retired in 1938.

The Underdog is correct. He won the National AAU in the bantamweight division. He defeated George Cirimeli, to win it.

Here's a picture and list of who was on the 1934 Golden Gloves team:

Team members, from left to right, are Patsy Urso, Troy Bellini, Al Nettlow, Frank Bojack, Phil Kennelley, Danny Farrar, Billy Treest, Joe Louis and Otis Thomas.

I believe your great uncle is the second on the left.
