How Highly Should Julio Cesar Chavez Be Rated In A ATG Sense?

Wins first 87 bouts, 3 Weight World Champion, Pound For Pound Number 1, and wins over Hall oF Famers? How high should Chavez rank in a ATG list and how great do you feel he was?

Or do you look feels he overrated due to getting gift decisions against the likes of Whitaker and Randall 2? And his debatable and dubious win over Meldrick Taylor?

dude was a great fighter, not sure where id place him in mytop 50 though its a tough one

i dont think his dubious wins affect his standing to much to be honest, they never seem to be mentioned when people are discussing him, although i think thats the way it should be when discussing a great fighter from the past, focusing on the positives and not the negatives

that said, maybe these things should be brought into consideration when assessing a fighters ATG standing

Just wrote a reply and sure enough the connection was lost and reply didn't go through. I essentially discussed his wins over Laporte, Taylor, Kamau, Randall, Rosario, Ramirez, Camacho, Limon, Haugen(how in WBHOF), R. Castillo. The fact that he went 98 or 99 fights without getting KOD and his first KO was due to a bad cut this leaves a solid legacy.

The whitaker and DLH fights did tarnish but didn't destroy his legacy. I have him down as the greatest mexican fighter and top 25 P4P.

I consider him an ATG. His accomplishments at 130, 135 & 140 far outweight the decision loss to Whitaker he deserved. The Randall fights came late in his career and though not to be overlooked, are at least acceptable.

Probably so, done enough. In his prime he also was a underrated defensive fighter. Wait we are talking about Sr. right?

He usually gets ranked between 20 and 25. I think that's about right. And I don't count the DLH losses against him, as he was quite a bit past his best, especially for the rematch.
