Why hasn't Earnie Shavers been inducted into the BHOF?

This seems a mystery to me......hardest hitting puncher of all time, with a pretty good resume in the golden era of boxing........Earnie Shavers should be inducted into the hall of fame....who else agrees with me?

Except for his destruction of Norton, he lost every big fight in his career. Was ko'd by Holmes, Lyle, Quarry and Cobb.

      Not quite i'm afraid..
The same argument could be made for Gerry Quarry and Ron Lyle, but the hard truth is, all 3 were made to look very average by Ali.. Earnie's only real claim to fame, was coming within a whisker of winning the title from Larry Holmes when he KD'd him for an 8 count in their 2nd fight, but in all honesty, that was probably the only round that he actually won, in the 20 odd rounds they fought one another..
Shavers had good KO's over Norton and Young, but was poleaxed himself by the 2 guys mentioned above, so by HOFFA standards, i'd say he doesn't quite cut the mustard..

Shavers does not deserve to be in the IBHOF.. Shavers was a very limited boxer who holds a KO victory over a washed up Jimmy Ellis and a shot Ken Norton.. Shavers lost every time he fought an opponent who was above class C level

Well stated and to the point. Shavers doesn't deserve induction.

i totally disagree with you on Jerry Quarry... if ever a fighter was IBHOF material it is Jerry Quarry.. Quarry was voted the most popular fighter in the world 1967, 68 & 69 he holds victories over Floyd Patterson, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Thad Spencer, Buster Mathis, Mac Foster, Larry Middleton & Brian London who was all contenders and fought for the title.. Quarry is the only man to have fought both Muhammad Ali & Joe Frazier twice each with his 1969 fight with Frazier for the title being Ring Mag FOTY.. Quarry also fought Eddie Machen as a young novice and Ken Norton when way past his best.. He came to London and KOd British, Commonwealth & European Champion Jack Bodell in 60 seconds of the opening round.. Quarry was a great box/puncher who had learned his trade the hard way and knew how to fight... "A Class Act"

The boxing hall of fame is a fanclub not a measure of greatness. Usually any fighter with a sizable fan following will get in. The problem that Shavers, Quarry, and Lyle have is that their fan following petered out at the end of the 1970s as their careers wound down. They may still get in though. Don't be shocked to see Gatti and Ward get inducted: Neither are great fighters by any stretch of the imagination but both have a rabid group of hardcore fans.

If Ward ever gets inducted, they should shut the HOF down. He was a clubfighter who didn't defeat one single great fighter(Gatti was not a great fighter) and never won a world title. It would be a disgrace. Thank God the fans don't vote for the IBHOF
