Does any one know Rocky Marciano's amateur record?

I have heard 2 or 3 different records from different sources

I did a report on him in high school, but it's been a while. I remember he was DQ'd in one fight though, punched himself out till he couldn't lift his gloves and ended up kicking the guy. One reason he got himself in such phenomenal shape later in his career, I'm sure. Looks like 8-4 from what I can see.

You're right. He kneed the guy in the groin, after gassing out. He was in bad shape due to bad eating habits and smoking a lot.

After that, he made sure that he wouldn't fight in such bad shape again.

Rock wasn't a great amateur.. I believe he won an army championship while doing national service in the 50's, but then lost it by DQ.. Unbelievably, it was because he gassed and held on for dear life! so i guess that's something he learned greatly from.. As Hank's already mentioned, he lost 4 out of 12, one of those defeats coming at the hands of Coley Wallace in a Golden Gloves tournament.. Wallace went on to become a fringe contender, while Marciano chose a career in baseball but was told soon afterwards, that his future lied elsewhwere.. In need of money he went back to boxing and put all his efforts into training as a pro and the rest they say, is history..

I once heard a story that when Rocky was younger he was called outside by 3 men in a bar and after putting all three on their backs, an observer strongly suggested he should take up boxing.. Would you know if there is any truth in this?

I never heard that one, BUT I will ask his brother the next time I see him. Honestly, I doubt if it is true.
