I had a dream about Michael Spinks

I asked him what middleweight does he think could have moved up and taken him in his prime. He said no middleweight could have taken him I his prime.

Spinks was tall. Maybe a bridge too far for the Marvelous one? We will never know. Leonard stepped up. He succeeded. Napoles tried, didn't work out. Zarate seemed invincible to me. Gomez showed me otherwise. Then he went in with Sanchez. Never know if you carry up or not. Cherry picking helps your crusade, easier to do with 4-5 titles per division, go hunting for the least resistance lamb. It happens.

      Could Monzon move up?

I think Spinks is one of the top five ATG LHW, so picking out a MW seems at first blush unlikely.

Monzon stood at six foot (5' 111/2" Boxrec) and always looked thin at 160. I think he could have gained from being 175; more like him filling out then 'moving up.' E.g. Hearns.

I think he could have given Spinks a fight. But again, like the Charles fight, it would be a no bet fight for me.

I don't think any middleweight would beat him. Spinks was way too good at 175. I mean jimmy Ellis was a middleweight at one point, a huge one. He might have a shot.

          - - Ellis was better at heavy because by then he was experienced. Green Ellis ain't beating any middle champ much less a great LH like Spinks who shut out the guy who put Vander in ICU.

Michael Spinks would be a long-forgotten man if he wasn't squashed by Mike Tyson. Paper-thin resume in a terrible division at the time. The man wouldn't be worth a bag of g****s today. Nash out.

"The light heavyweight division has rarely been better than it was in the early 1980s, and Michael Spinks stood tall at the top of the pack. Boxing was still a major sport on network television."

Tell us more about something that you know very little about.

Let me guess, Marvin Hagler ruled over one of the weakest Middleweight divisions of all time? That's why he was so good?
