    Worst Trainer Pull Outs

    - -Porter Sr pulling a seemingly unhurt Jr out in the 10th round last Saturday one of the most dubious fight stoppages I've ever seen. Porter had been making Craw work harder than ever in his career and could've come roaring back from the KDs and was obviously distressed with the stoppage. What were the over/under odds in the 10th?

I'm all for responsible trainers having that power, but it continues to be abused. I remember in young Clay's career he got some dubious corner pull out stoppages in what appeared to be tough fights for Clay. Ruby Goldstein's stoppage of Sonny Banks in an uneventful round after both had exchanged KDs early in the fight was also inexplicable.

Never see it discussed save in the moment where it's quickly forgotten by absent minded fight fans.

That Porter announced his retirement immediately after the fight makes me think that Porter Sr. was just pulling the plug early; that they were taking one more payday.

If all went well they would have gladly grabbed the title, but if it didn't go well they weren't going to risk life and limb when they had aleady decided that they were at the end.

If it was eight years ago and the kid was contesting for his first title, then I would say yes, he lost faith in his kid, but that was then, this is now.

I think he did right by his kid, not the paying fans or prize fighting, for sure, but considering where things stood, he did the right thing by his kid.

When he has decided before the fight that he is retiring win, lose or draw, no one believes his heart is 100% in the fight anyway. The man was on a bank run. Period.

        - -It has been said Sr made disparaging comments about Jr in the post fight, but I generally don't watch much if any of most of those dog and pony shows.

Directly he was quoted as saying Jr "hadn't prepared properly." But is Porter really retired? These ain't your grandpappy retirement days. He made $4mil, so what's it take to ditch retirement for an up and comer needing a name on his ledger? I'd imagine $2 mil would turn the trick.
