Foreman was a GREAT fighter but I don't think he would have been the greatest if not for Ali. Jimmy Young put it to him, and if he hadn't I think Holmes would have. JMO, of course.

as far as holmes i dont fall for larrys **** talking....i cant see foreman getting jabbed all day without fighting back......even ali couldnt dance around him like he did his previous wins with frazier and norton because foreman was too good at cutting off the ring....

Originally posted by The Bay Bomber View PostFrazier is higher on my list. Yes he lost to Foreman but it was just a bad matchup for him
Originally posted by Benncollinsaad View PostI thought we were talking about the past prime Foreman. Prime Foreman would wipe the floor with Lewis and knock out Holmes.
Originally posted by sonnyboyx2 View PostAli would also knock out Lewis & Holmes, Jimmy Young was similar to Chris Byrd and Byrd thrived on fighting pressure fighters which is why he completely `shut-out` Holyfield & Tua.. Jimmy Young also beat Ron Lyle, yet he never `knocked down`Foreman, it was ruled as a knock down when Foremans glove touched the canvas but his ass was never on the canvas.. IMO i would fancy Jimmy Young to beat Lewis & Holmes... Joe Frazier would have broken Jimmy Young `in half`
2) Holyfield was over the hill against Byrd and was whoopin up on his ass down the stretch. Looked like it could have been Holyfield's fight if it went 15 rounds.
3) Jimmy Young was harder to hit than Ali, and Jimmy trained out of Frazier's gym. There would be no "breaking in half". Did Frazier break an over the hill Eddie Machen in half? No, and don't quote me the result from boxrec. If you watched the fight you'd know what I'm talking about. Jimmy is too slick for Frazier to do something like that.

Foreman makes my top 10, while Frazier is just outside of it.

Frazier was a better overall boxer, and did more as champion than Foreman.
Just because he lost to Foreman doesn't mean he wasn't as good on the all-time list.
Is Joe Louis ranked higher than Rocky Marciano? Is Jack Dempsey ranked higher than Tunney?
I'm not saying I rank them in any particular order, but it is certainly possible.

And no, those guys would not knock out Lennox Lewis. His chin was not glass. He had two fights where he came in fat and fought like a chode. There's a video floating around somewhere that absolutely puts to bed the notion that Lewis couldn't take a punch.
With his size, reach, power, skill, adjustments on the fly, etc., he would be a tough game for most opponents in history.Last edited by Brassangel; 09-09-2009, 12:57 AM.

George Foreman gets stopped by Lennox Lewis? You must have meant the other way around. Prime or 40+ year old Foreman, doesn't matter.
Yet Foreman has wins over 3 elite Heavyweights and is 20 years apart on the first (Frazier) and the third (Moorer). The other elite Heavyweight he beat was Norton. Frazier only beat 1 elite Heavyweight, Ali. Without Ali, Frazier doesn't even get recognition as an ATG.
And why exactly would we be comparing a past it Foreman to a prime Joe Frazier?
1) Ali can't "knock out" elite fighters that don't gas.
Did Frazier break an over the hill Eddie Machen in half? gran?
Ditto.
Boxing ability of prime Holmes > past it Ali
Frazier beat prime `Ringo Bonavena (twice) stopped Chuvalo, stopped Quarry (twice) beat Muhammad Ali, Knocked Out Jimmy Ellis (twice) KOd Mathis, Stander & Bob Foster and beat a young Joe Bugner.. he also "Broke Eddie Machen up" all fights which i have in my collection, IMO Fraziers record is excellent as all of the above fighters was in their absolute Prime when Frazier beat them..Who else knocked out these fighters other than Muhammad Ali.
Frazier took part in 4 Ring Magazine Fights of the Year How many did Lennox Lewis & Larry Holmes take part in..... NONE because they never fought the competition that Joe Frazier fought, they was never willing to lay it all on the line like Frazier did, the bottom line is those two fighters was not in the same league as Joe Frazier
Muhammad Ali had excellent punching power and to claim he did not is ridiculous ..
Jimmy Young is vastly over rated his only claim to fame is having Foreman trip-over his foot and touch the canvas with his glove otherwise Foreman was a clear winner.. Chris Byrd was twice as good as Jimmy Young..
Byrd was a clear winner over Holyfield all be it an old Holyfield and regardless of how many rounds the fight was fought over Byrd would have won.Last edited by sonnyboyx2; 09-09-2009, 02:25 AM.
