toney master defensive and counter puncher.
His wieght was his only problem at lower wieght classes because he use to be over 200lbs when he played college football so he was origanally a heavywieght.

I only skimmed the previous posts, but I think Nunn was clearly winning more rounds than Toney, but not my much. Toney's natural slickness kept him in the fight. As the fight went on, you could actually see Toney becoming a better fighter - like he was learning as the rounds went by. The same with his first fight with McCallum.

Thats totally not true, i dont understand why people cant tell the difference between landed punches and when a punch is actually being slipped. The compubox stats during the fight were having you believe nunn was hitting toney with summin like 50 punches a round , if you look at toney's face after the fight, he'd hardly been touched.

Nunn looked total class, but his jab werent landing on toney for the most part, the cleaner harder shots throughout the fight were landed by toney and toney hurt him several times on the fight up to the knockout.

For me toney stylistically had no right to win that fight, he was against a guy who was taller had a better reach, was evasive and had great boxing skills, not just in straight lines, but also with uppercuts and hooks. The reason Nunn lost the fight was because he couldnt keep toney on the outside enough, and toney proved that he is as good as it gets on the inside, slipping punches and hitting nunn with heavy right hands and body shots.

I had toney 6-4 up going into round 11 because nunn acutally wasnt landing many shots on toney, if you look closely enough, anyways, i just wanted other people opinions on this fight. I still dont know how toney was able to dodge most of those jabs and left hands from nunn, toney's movement was unreal, and he was 22 at the time and had only been a pro for 2 years.

For me it was a legendary performace, you take the michael nunn from that fight, and put him in against benn, eubank, collins, hopkins, i think he would have won comfortably. Toney won that fight on pure talent. I still dont understand how he stands still and doesnt get hit.
        Thank you!

There's this misconception that Toney was getting dominated and landed a lucky punch. Not the case at all. In fact most people dont even watch the fight they just look on Boxrec, or go by word of mouth. The fight was in Nunn's hometown from what I remember and the judges all had him either posting a shut out or winning every round but 1. I think Julie Lederman was a judge. Just awful judging.

Lol Nunn losing focus, Toney was just landing the harder punches from the opening bell, and Nunn broke down. From the eighth round on you can clearly see Toney take control. And this was a green Toney, who was still relaitvely sloppy offensively.

I have this fight on DVD although I haven't seen it for a while, and Nunn was winning in a shut out in his hometown! Nunn was an awesome figter in is prime and I believe e was weigt drained for this fight! As much as Toney being one of my favourite fighters the truth must be said he was well behind on scorecards with unofficial scorecard giving Toney two to three rounds at best??? Correct me if I'm wrong! Gotta give props to toney for sitting Nunn on his but in 11th and to me that's a sign of greatness if a fighter knocks out their opponent in Championship rounds!

This is that horrible misconception everyone is talking about! He simply wasn't being beaten in a shutout. It's a ridiculous statement and those people that do say it must not have watched the fight in a long time and their memory been skewed because of it. Toney had won the last three rounds before he KO'ed Nunn and hurt him in nearly all of those rounds. From what I remember I gave him maybe two rounds other than that those.

Nunn was coming off a very bland stretch against welterweights like Starling & Curry, & a disappointing performance against Barkley.

Nunn was not doing much but keeping Toney at bay for the first 6 rounds. After that, Toney slowly closed the gap, & began slamming Nunn with neck-snapping right hands. These shots became more & more frequent with each passing round, until the awesome finish.

Toney proved he was better than Nunn, that night & years to follow.
You might not have but a lot of people did. Everything else is spot on correct!
