Maybe Leonard fought smart. I love Hagler, but why could he not catch and stop Leonard? It's called smart boxing. Many guys fighting smart got stopped through the years.
Why is Leonard not given credit for boxing rather than slugging?......Rockin'
Of course he should get credit for boxing. However you can't take Hagler down a peg for not stopping Leonard when Leonard couldn't do the same. Personally I thought Hagler just edged the fight but like I said previously I have never watched it again since it was first broadcasted.

As IF Leonard could ever ko Hagler. I've never faulted Hagler for the loss, he was simply a step too slow and a fight too old.

I still view Hagler as one of the baddest mf'ers ever despite the loss........Rockin'

Yeah he was amazing. Could switch from right to left seamlessly. Could fight inside and from distance. Couple of things that I always remember about Hagler. His short little punches that wore down his opponents and he would generally be the guy that finished the exchanges. I'm a fan of Leonard also. That era had some incredible fighters in all the divisions.

I've seen Hagler/Leonard a couple of times, but I haven't yet had the chance to see Hagler/Duran. Obviously, there is at least a bit of controversy surrounding the Hagler/SRL bout, and I seem to recall reading somewhere that Duran was actually leading his bout, forcing Hagler to rally late for a win.

Now, obviously SRL officially defeated Hagler, but I'm more curious about who you think had a better showing against him.

So, what do you think? (Additional tacked-on question: Is the Hagler/Duran fight worth watching? I know some "superfights" are perhaps less spectacular than would be expected.)

its actually very contravsersial. with better quality versions of Duran vs Hagler on youtube, Duran is the one landing flush for most of the fight, but the later closing rounds Hagler made a more obvious showing.

Against Leonard Hagler never really got the upper hand, most rounds were dead even, with Leonard being the superstar and doing better than everyone expected which is what I think edged the fight in his favor. Realistically Leonard shouldnt have taken Haglers title - but it was an ATG performance because Leonard was more on the slide than Hagler.

Both fights Hagler choked under the lights for the first 5 rounds, then got confident later once he figured he could take both their punches.

Duran was the one who shut Haglers eye though.

In Duran vs Hagler, the footage is often from a distance. In Hagler vs Leonard they are using the more contemporary up close camera.

In the first 7 rounds though, Duran is tagging Hagler flush. Haglers head however, as per usual doesnt budge when he gets hit which gives the impression that nobody ever lands effective shots on him.

I'd say Leonard since he was such a huge underdog and used his quickness to outmaneuver Hagler. Hagler gave away rounds not fighting southpaw as well.

Haven't seen Hagler vs Duran yet but I thought SRL clearly beat Hagler.

Leonard did better. You should see Hagler vs Duran. Duran came to fight. Hagler gave him too much respect, until coming on later.

After scoring it two times there is one thing I learned. Hagler didn't win any of the first four rounds. SRL won them. Hagler was too passive here and it cost him the fight.

Leonard turned his match with Hagler into one of the best girl fights I have ever seen. Bobby fought like a man.
