Damage to Hughie Fury’s hand from his previous fight has caused him to withdraw from boxing this weekend.
The injury sustained against Dan Garber in April needs more time to heal, and so Fury is now off Saturday’s GBM Show and he is not expected back until late August or early September.
The British Boxing Board of Control would not allow Fury to fight on Saturday having received a medical report, undertaken by Dr Tom Rigby in Cheshire, which instructed them that fractured metacarpals in the heavyweight’s hand had not healed fully.
A spokesman for Team Fury said, “Hughie did not want to withdraw from this bout and was adamant he was more than ready to compete and win. The British Board of Boxing Control takes the health and safety of boxers very seriously and would not countenance Hughie competing until his hand is fully healed.
“Hughie is upset that he has been withdrawn from the card but he respects the Board’s decision. He will continue to stay in fighting shape and is targeting a return to the ring around late August or early September. He remains focused on his goal of becoming world heavyweight champion in 2026.”
The 30-year-old Fury is 30-3 (17 KOs), and he stopped Garber in the fifth round of their scheduled six.
In his 12-year career, Fury has boxed the likes of Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin, Samuel Peter, Dominick Guinn, and Kubrat Pulev.
He had been due to face Belgium’s Michael Pirotton on Saturday in Hull at Connexin Live, on a show topped by the European light heavyweight title fight between Shakan Pitters and Bradley Rea.
