Heavyweight contender Hughie Fury has been matched with Michael Pirotton in Hull on June 28.
They will fight on a bill topped by the European light heavyweight title fight between Shakan Pitters and Brad Rea at the Connexin Live Arena on a GBM show called Deep Waters.
Fury is an experienced 30-3 (17 KOs), while Belgian Pirotton is 10-1 (4 KOs), and Fury is hoping to pick up momentum that will take him towards a world title.
Pirotton suffered his only loss in Saudi Arabia at the WBC Heavyweight Grand Prix in April, losing a decision to Poland’s Piotr Lacz, but knows an upset win will put him back in the heavyweight mix.
“There’s no stopping me between now and me winning the world heavyweight championship – I’m on the title trail,” said Fury. “If you follow heavyweight boxing you’ll know Michael Pirotton is a dangerous young heavyweight. He’s making a bold move by coming after me, which I quite admire. He’s got nothing to lose and everything to gain. He’ll be a very hard night’s work on June 28th, but it’s my hand will be raised when it’s all over.”
Hughie is coached by his father, Peter, who added: “Hughie told everyone at the start of the year that there’s no stopping him now until we’ve won the world title. He’s a man of his word. We’re building momentum for that title run now. He’s doing superb work in the gym, he’s right where he needs to be and he’s showing the world championship calibre which is going to see that belt wrapped round his waist this time next year.
