Wuppertal, Germany - German middleweight Vincenzo "El Capo" Gualtieri (21-0-1 won the vacant IBF title in a big upset with a unanimous decision over Brazilian Esquiva Falcao (30-1).

The judges had it 116-110 twice and 117-109, Falcao was floored in the second as he walked into Gualtieri's left hook and what looked like a slip in the tenth was also ruled as a knockdown.

Both men strayed low in the seventh but then Gualiteri scored with a big left uppercut way below the belt of Falcao, who went down and almost out. A long time out followed where the referee apparently ruled the punch as accidental and urged Falcao to fight on - and he did.

Gualtieri boxed on the move and was quite often up against the ropes but would often score with sharp counters from both hands especially early in the fight. Sensing (or knowing) he was ahead on points made for a strong finish from the German, who fought the fight of his life while Falcao looked flat, especially in the later rounds when he seemed to follow his opponent around instead of cutting the ring off and getting to work.

BoxingScene had it 114-114 - and did not score a 10-8  round for Gualtier in the tenth.  The referee's handling of the low blow was also controversial as the punch was very low and looked deliberate. As for the scoring Gualtieri fought a smart fight on the defence and was sharp with his counters and awkward moves - but often Falcao outworked him but wasn't rewarded for that.

For AGON and Wuppertal this was big and the crowd was on their feet for much of the fight.

AGON's Italian middleweight Etinosa Oliha (18-0) won the vacant IBO title with a points over Chilean ring general Julio Alamos (16-1) after twelve hard fought rounds in a fight were neither man gave ground, At the end the judges had it 115-113 twice and 116-112. It became a little bit closer than it was as Oliha coasted a bit in the last round probably knowing he was ahead on points. The fight started fast and never slowed down. Alamos, who stopped Bjorn Schicke in his last visit to Germany, showed an excellent defense and good power but Oliha put pressure on him fighting on the inside and was the stronger man. Alamos finished with a bad cut on the nose and also bled from the right ear.

IBf # 2 super welter "Golden '' Jack Culcay (33-4) knocked out Argentinian Juan Adrian Monzon (8-5-3) in the second at 51 seconds with a series of left hooks to the head. Monzon was floored twice in the first and was in over his head in this one. Culcay looked sharp though and finished the job on hand impressively.

Local hero Martin Houben (16-2) was badly knocked out last time around and was careful not to let it happen against late sub Omar Garcia from Venezuela. Houben boxed well behind the jab while Garcia was dangerous with his big hooks and had his moments but Martin was a clear winner at the end of this eight-rounder made at light heavyweight.

Cruiserweight Dariusz Lassotta (3-0) stopped Brazilian Eduardo Sacramento Da Silveira (1-4). Sacramento kept shaking his left hand already in the first round and did little fighting and a lot of spoiling during the fight. It came as no surprise when didn't come out for the fourth round (officially the fight was stopped at 0.04 of the 4th). It was scheduled for six.

Super bantamweights Farlin Condori (6-1-1) from Spain and Italian Yeiler Vazquez (3-1-1) fought to a draw in their six-rounder. Condori started well boxing on the move but Vazquez was the stronger man and finished strongly in a fast paced, intense fight. Boxing Scene had Vazquez winning at 58-56.

Big Cuban heavyweight Carlos ``Hulk" Castillo (now 3-0) opened the show at the Unihalle and outscored tough Italian Alfonso Damiani (7-4) over six. Castillo dominated the fight, won every round while showing a lot of slick moves but could never hurt his opponent
