Chumash Casino, Santa Ynez, California - Junior welterweight Vernon Paris (25-1, 15KOs) stopped Tim Coleman (19-2-1, 5KOs) in the seventh round.
They were swinging in the first. Coleman was rocked in the final ten seconds of the first round, but came back in the second to knock Paris down. By the end of the third, Paris was bleeding from his nose and suffered a minor cut above his left eye. Paris found Coleman's weakness - shots to the body. He punished the body of Coleman in the sixth, dropping him twice and finished him off with another knockdown in the the seventh.
Lightweight prospect Mike Faragon (15-0, 6KOs) stopped Ira Terry (24-5, 14KOs) in the second round after a beating to the head and body.
In a super featherweight contest, Art Hovhannesyan (14-0-1, 8KOs) and Cristobal Cruz (39-12-3, 23KOs) fought to a four round technical draw. The scores were 39-37 for Cruz, 39-37 for Hovhannesyan and 38-38 for the draw. The fight was starting to get very interesting. Cruz was tagging Hovhannesyan with some very good punches. There was a clash of heads in the fourth round, and Cruz suffered a very bad cut on his forehead. The referee and the doctor made a mutual decision to stop the fight. Going by the rules of the California State Athletic Commission, the fight went the judges because the fourth round had started.
