It took no one by surprise today when USA Boxing's Claressa Shields did what she was expected to do in advancing to the women's middleweight final with a win over Kazakstan's Dariga Shakimova.
The 21-year-old outboxed her opponent over three rounds to take a unanimous decision.
"I fought great this fight," Shields told NBC Sports' Chris Mannix. "I was completely comfortable. I threw my punches in combination and was faster and stronger than I was in my first bout (on Wednesday, after having not fought for a month)."
Shields will meet Nouchka Fontijn of the Netherlands in the final.
Three other finals matches were set today, with Misha Aloian of France meeting Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan in the flyweight final, Fazlidden Gaibnazarov of Uzbekistan meeting Lorenzo Satomayor Collazo of Columbia in the light welterweight final and Tony Yoka of France meeting Joe Joyce of Great Britain in the super heavyweight final.
In the day's main event, France's Estelle Mossely defeated China's Junhua Rin for the women's lightweight gold medal.
