Guillermo Rigondeaux, the former multi-division titleholder, knocked out Dannis Aguero on Tuesday night at E11EVEN Nightclub in Miami, Florida, in a junior featherweight bout.
Rigondeaux, 44, a two-time Olympic gold medalist from the 2000 and 2004 Games, floored Aguero with a body shot in the first round for the stoppage.
In March 2022, Rigondeaux, now 23-3 (16 KOs), sustained a severe eye injury in a pressure cooker mishap at his Miami residence. Since then, he has fought and won three times, including last night. Before this streak, the Cuban-born star had suffered back-to-back unanimous decision losses to John Riel Casimero and Vincent Astrolabio. Rigondeaux is perhaps best known for his 2013 win over Nonito Donaire, who had been widely hailed as the previous year’s Fighter of the Year.
Aguero, 33, of the Dominican Republic, falls to 20-3 (17 KOs).
